Did the Florida Gators do enough to make the NCAA Tournament?

It couldn't have gone much worse for Florida on Friday night in Nashville. Mississippi State defeated the Gators 75-69 but it really wasn't that close.

Did Florida need to win on Friday to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament or did Billy Donovan's Gators already have a bid locked up before the game? I think the Gators are headed to the NIT. Plenty of others think differently.

We'll have another blog post on Saturday night or Sunday morning about what NCAA Tournament selection committee might be considering when analyzing UF's season. For now, here are the Cliff Notes:

1. UF has three wins against teams with an RPI better than 50: Tennessee, Michigan State and Florida State.
2. UF somehow lost to South Alabama at home.
3. The Gators beefed up their non-conference schedule this season in the hopes of impressing the NCAA. UF lost to Xavier, Richmond and Syracuse.

maybe the football team should try and MAN-UP like your basketball team and beef up your non-conference schedule, instead of scheduling high school teams like, charleston south, troy, appalachian st (didn't know we had a state called appalachian?), miami of ohio (wrong MIAMI).
MIAMI schedules Ohio St., Pittsburgh, USF, for thier non-conference schedule, 'cuse we'll play anbody anywhere, unlike the GAtors who won't even leave the state.
I mean really GAtors, if you weren't such wussses, you'd be demanding AD Fooley schedule the CANES..

The 'University Club' would like 2 thank dripp88, adamsapple, joannieinpinecrest, reptilessuck, felonssuck, taco brothers, rita pallazzo barfGAtor04, tko classic, & all the rest of the bloggers on here, & especially jogo 4 organizin this.
A many, many thanks 4 cummin 2 our 'NIT' watch party yesterday.
Looks good on gettin in2 the 'NIT'.
GO GAtors..

99% people who read Herald don't care what the Gators do. I still don't get why you have a column in Herald, guess theirs a gator on Board of Directors.

The Top 10 Most Cowardly Programs In College Football

COMING IN AT NUMBER 10! THE FLORIDA GATORS!

Why are some college football programs so afraid to go out on a limb?

I fully understand what the BCS has done to the game. College football’s unofficial governing body has turned the season into a four-month playoff, and many fans applaud the excitement that has resulted.

And, to be honest, I can’t say I’m not one of those fans. Every game is essentially a do-or-die scenario, and the urgency that now dominates Saturdays in late summer and all of autumn has made college football a thriving brand with momentum and profits to burn.

But at what cost are a majority of teams from major conferences attempting to achieve the perfection that the BCS so gluttonously covets?

Nowadays, nonconference scheduling is an absolute joke. In the three weeks or so that precede conference play, pathetic matchups dominate because schools are afraid to essentially put their seasons on the line.

And when it’s all said and done, the only real winners are the tiny FCS programs who gladly incur a 50-point beating if it means going home with a paycheck.

Of course, there are those programs that refuse to play it safe, some of which are actually big-time contenders who take it upon themselves to flirt with danger in September.

And those teams should be lauded, for there are far too many who’d rather take their chances in conference play than schedule any real competition in the first month of the season.

Here are just a few of the guiltiest culprits.

JUST PLAYING THJEY CAME IN AT NUMBER 1 OR ONE OR UNO LMAO!!!!!!!

Excellent stuff meth heads! I can't wait until the season starts and we pound FAMU. I am so happy we play Ohio St and Pitt not because we are bold but we get a lot of money to play those teams as we can't sell out our own stadium. We don't care about winning NCs anymore, its all about $$$!

Go 'canes!

Oh and I forgot to mention...ha ha the Gators may have to play in the NIT. Just think it was just 3 years ago that the won the NCAA tourny in back to back years something us Cane fans wont ever see! Stupid Gators

"The Canes were led in all stats by three Freshmen and a Sophmore, during the tournament. They were the youngest team in the country. Next Basketball season, the Canes will be unbeatable."

The City Beautiful rejoices. - canesrule

I could not have said it myself.

Randy said on WQAM this week that he did not have any schollies left for "anyone". I have to think that there would be at least one available schollie if Henderson decided to pick UM.

if henderson decided to pick UM.........he already did asssmunch. He picked a free trip to the sun for pampering and a respite from the cold. That's IT! Now if U think for one moment that Seantrel is seriously considering enrolling at UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI then you just aint the sharpest tool in the shed fella. He saw the rust bucket facility with his own two eyes. That place looks like something out of the stone age. Yeah...I'm sure he liked the whole "family" schpeal....U R a major tard.

I'm all yours jo!

The Gators have beaten the canes recently, won 2 NCs and play in BCS games, UF basketabll has won 2 NCs and made the dance again, and we just lost a baseball series to UF in baseball. What is going on here and how much are NIT tix and do they have a meatloaf package?
