RECRUITING: Scouting report of Florida Gators commitment Chase Hounshell

GAINESVILLE -- So, here's a little scouting report on the Florida Gators 13th commitment, lineman Chase Hounshell of Mentor Lake Catholic in Northeast Ohio...

According to Hounshell's high school coach, he is exactly what the Gators are looking for when it comes to athletic lineman. Hounshell is 6-5, 265-pounds and very athletic. He also runs well and is easily coached, according to his high school coach.

Hounshell has started at Lake Catholic for three years and chose UF over Notre Dame, Boston College, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan State. Those five schools were his finalists until Florida swooped in and offered a scholarship. Hounshell committed immediately.

Hounshell's older brother plays for Central Florida and Hounshell's twin sister is a star basketball player for Lake Catholic. Hounshell was initially recruited by UF linebackers coach D.J. Durkin, who knows the region after coaching at Bowling Green.

If Hounshell remains committed to Florida, he'll be the first player from Ohio to sign with Florida during the Urban Meyer Era.

Nice. Maybe this can help Urban crack Ohio, and attract more recruits from there. This is also good because you can never have enough good offensive linemen.

Does anybody out there know where Emmitt Smith went 2 college b/c he didnt mention it in his 24 minute HOF speech.
PS, i know he went Escambia High School b/c he did mention that.

nevermind

PS Does anyone know if Miami has actually EVER just shown up to the ACC title game, much less won it. Just looking for an answer. A FACT!

PS When was the last time Miami has ever won a bowl game? Please let me know the year. A FACT!

PS please let me know what Randy SHannon's record is in the miserable ACC, A FACT. By my recollection, you would think the Hurricanes played in the NFC East instead of the WEAK, HORRID, ACC.

Just looking for a few answers and FACTS, and believe me I have plenty more coming.

You said it Gatorbuc! Year to year we live and die in the trenches. Urban and Company will have to be 3 deep on the OL and DL to have sustained success.

Hopefully we can land some more of these guys!

they severely suffer from Napoleon complex.

Really? The largest state school in florida cant hold a candle to the small private school in Miami when it comes to football.

28 - 26 HTH

5 - 3 championships

3 - 0 undefeated seasons.

4 - 1 HTH THIS DECADE

Lets put this in perspective shall we?

Could you imagine a University of Birmingham having this type of record against Alabama. How about a University of Shreveport owning LSU or a University of Atlanta with more ships than UGA. No you can not. The sec laughs at the gators because a small private school punks them in every way on tha football field. It got soooooo bad big bad florida had to quit playing the little private school are you freaking kidding me? The only Napoleon complex in the state of Florida resides in gainesville.

Florida
Sept. 4: vs. Miami (Ohio), F
Sept. 11: vs. South Florida, C
Nov. 20: vs. Appalachian State, F-
Nov. 27: at Florida State, B+

Overall grade: D+
In the words of Gators fans everywhere, WWTTD? Because surely Tim Tebow would prefer his ex-teammates take on more of a challenge. This marshmallow slate is enough to make you wanna shave your head in protest. … like a friar. First they play the wrong Miami — the weak sister from Ohio — and then the wrong green wearing team from southern Florida — it should be the ‘Canes. And scheduling Appy State? Pffft, that’s soooo three years ago. At least FSU could be making a comeback this year, if not for their mind-numbing slate.

gators 10 biggest losses:

4. 2003—Florida at Miami

The Gators shot at redemption for the 2002 beating nearly went up in smoke on the opening kickoff as Devin Hester gave the Hurricanes an early lead. The Gators stormed back and led 33-10 before ex-Gator Brock Berlin led the rally to hand the Gators yet another loss to Miami

I thought the beating in 2002 was worse 41 - 16 in the swamp. OUCH!

There is no better comedy than watching Brock to the gator chomp. BAWHAHAHAHAHA

True story. I googled "Brock Berlin doing the gator chomp" and this is the third link. LMFAO!

Brock Berlin doing the gator chomp at your sideline in the OB after bringing the Canes from behind must of scarred you for life kehoe. I dont blame you. Getting beat by the Canes with your own reject QB could do that to anybody.

The Berlin era was the beginning of the who's demise. Look what has happened since. Your program has gone down the tubes clowns and you don't even know it.

Hey at least Florida had the balls to let Berlin tranfer to the WHO. When Marve went to transfer, Punk Shananingans said he couldn't go to the Gators.Just like playing in a basketball conference. Fake tough guys.

Fake tough guys?

You dropped us from your schedule. You will not play us. Not only does our AD call you out for it but the NATIONAL media as well. Your scared.....

Like Bud Bundy, you are a coward and a virgin. We would LOVE to try something against you in 2010, but you chickens DUCKED OUT OF THE ANNUAL SERIES. You guys are probably gonna cancel the 2013 game because we finally won't be playing with SEC refs. In Gainesville, we played against you and against the SEC refs. Now, we are hearing you are whining about going on the road without SEC refs. Cowards. 20 years of dominance, followed by one game against a 5-7 rebuilding team, and you are afraid to face us each year again.

If Jacory goes down then.....YOU DUMB CANE. You re all about if and what ifs..

The two coaches in the ACC who come to mind first for not backing down from tough schedules are Virginia Tech's Frank Beamer and Miami's Randy Shannon. Beamer's philosophy that playing a program the caliber of Boise State or Alabama in the season opener raises the team's level of focus and sense of urgency in the offseason, making it a better team faster. That makes sense.

Here's what Shannon told the Miami Herald earlier this month about his grueling schedule, which includes road trips to Ohio State, Pitt and Clemson before returning home to face rival Florida State:

"Somebody always questions the University of Miami,'' he said. "They say, 'Coach, how are you guys going to be able to make it to win the championship because your out-of-conference schedule is so tough.' I'm thinking, 'I don't understand. We've always been a school that doesn't back down from anyone.'

"With the coaching staff and players and chemistry we have on our staff, we feel like we can compete against anybody in America, because what we've done the past three years is build. Let's take that next step.'"
That schedule, though, is going to make it even more difficult to take the next step. There has to be a happy medium, and Virginia Tech seems to have found it. Despite the loss to Bama last year, the Hokies could have still been in contention for the national title had they not dropped games to UNC and Georgia Tech. This year they'll face a similar situation. A win over Boise State puts them right in the mix for the national title, but the toughest competition remaining will come from within the conference.

ACC Coastal: 4 ranked teams.

sec East: 2 ranked teams

You know preseason rankings are 100% right. You are a moron. There are no real contenders in the ACC even though FSU might turn a corner this year.

It could get uuuuuuugly

You guys know alot about getting ugly. What was it 19 picks last year....led the nation maybe? and dip sh$t was saying he was going to the heisman presentation. Talk and hype doesn't mean anything.

Who's the most "Bundy" to come out of FU?

Oh yeah, Turd Ted Bundy, who loved coeds with flair on their faces.

JACORY IS TERRIBLE. DUKE DROPPED LIKE 15 INT'S THAT JACORY THREW RIGHT AT THEM. HE IS BRUTAL.

MIAMI IS NOT MIDDLE OF THE PACK OF THE ACC, THEY ARE JUST A LITTLE BETTER THAN DUKE. 2ND WORST TEAM IN THE ACC.

THEY WERE PICKED TO FINISH 4TH IN THEIR DIVISION ACCORDING TO THE ACC WRITERS BUT IN SOUTH FLORIDA??? PRESEASON NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TALK.

NO MORE CHEATING LIKE THE 80S AND PLAYING FAMU, TEMPLE, WITHOUT A CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP AND HOME NATIONAL TITLE GAMES....WOW THAT WAS TOUGH!!!

NOW THEY JOIN A CONFERENCE, ALBEIT WEAK CONFERENCE AND THEY CANT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE CONFERENCE TITLE GAME, MUCH LESS WIN IT.

AINT SO EASY, IS IT MIAMI!!!

AS LONG AS RANDY SHANNON IS THERE AS A HEAD COACH, THAT PROGRAM WILL SUFFER---0-2 IN BOWL GAMES AGAINST WEAK SCHOOLS AND MISSED ONE OF THE 6,500 BOWL GAMES IN HIS OTHER YEAR....THAT IS A COACH THAT IS IN WAYYYYYYYYYYY OVER HIS HEAD.....COKER'S RECORD DESTROYS THAT AND COKER IS SORRY....

Posted by: U have criminals EVERYWHERE

That was FSU.

Orange on one side, "If" on the other.

If Jacory didn't throw that 17th INT,
If our line could block,
If our rented stadium could create home field advantage,
If Wisconsin didn't have a TE,
If Butch Davis didn't own us,
If it didn't rain in Blacksburg,
If we could stop CJ Spiller

Very compelling discussion Disgruntled Cane Guy. The history of the Canes v Gators can be summed up best though in the September 13, 1982 issue of SI. Maybe reading a third party perspective (that is better researched) can "learn" you on the topic.

I'm with you, we should be playing the Canes every year. However, the reasons for dropping the Canes go back way before either school was finding any success on the field.

...Yeah, just like USC and UCLA!! Ooops, bad example.

Posted by: Marble mouf | August 13, 2010 at 10:34 AM

BAWHAHAHAHA, Percy called and he wants his weed back. Or was it Hammond looking for his crown? Even FSU can't match the mighty gators when it comes to incarceration.

The gators would have their first undefeated season.
urban meyer would not be poping prozac like tic tacs.
Atlanta would not be out the 100,000 dollars it took to fix the flood damage from shebows tears.

Yea, win your conference like the gators did last year.

If UM were good...they'd win a conference championship.

Posted by: Pipe Dream | August 13, 2010 at 10:57 AM

I forgot that one - thanks!

If UM had alumns worth a crap and an athletic dept that was solvent, they'd have a stadium of their own, like us.

Regarding the first point above -- why do you think Schnelly never went back to UM?

Answer: He knows how much the alumns and local fans suck!

Feldman asks the questions "to cream puff or not to cream puff?"

"With the coaching staff and players and chemistry we have on our staff, we feel like we can compete against anybody in America, because what we've done the past three years is build. Let's take that next step.'"

That OB dem-o-lishon put me outta bi'ness. UM games was my "season".

Question that was edited out of the Miami Herald interview:

"Coach why are all those SEC schools STILL ahead of you in SOS?"

Randy's answer: "Because our conference sucks."

You've got to give it to RS, at least he's honest!

...also edited out of the interview:

Randy: "I know our OOC games are tough, but our conference games give us a breather between those OOC games."

Right on RS!

That OB dem-o-lishon put me outta bi'ness. UM games was my "season".

Posted by: Former Crack Dealer | August 13, 2010 at 11:22 AM

LOL - that explains why no one ever made into the stadium for the games!

....also edited out of the interview:

"Coach Meyers, why do Turd fans insist that the SEC is a decent conference when they have 2-4 decent teams and the rest bottom dwellars?"

Urbie: "I noticed that too. I mean we have, what, 1 team in our division ranked while the ACC Coastal ALONE has, what, 4 teams in the top 20? That's wicked good!"

"Does it bother you coach, this disparity between Turd fans perception and reality?"

Urbie: "It does. But when I start to feel anxious or chest pains I just hit the Meds and chase it down with a cold Land Shark, and about 15 minutes later I'm ready to coach again!"

Posted by: If ain't a country I never heard of. | August 13, 2010 at 11:12 AM

Dumb turd tards can never get their facts staight even when it stares them in the face.

Say what again motherphuker, I dare you!

@ Woodward - you left out the part of the interview that referenced Pat Forde's analysis in ESPN.com:

"You want more? I got more.
• The four straight title-game victories? None of them close. Not a single second-half deficit. Average margin of SEC victory: 16.8 points. Closest margin: 10 points. Hasn't mattered whether the opponent is from the Big Ten (Ohio State twice) or the Big 12 (Oklahoma once, Texas the other); they haven't been able to compete.
• The league hasn't been just one marquee team and a bunch of hash. It has placed at least two teams in the USA Today final poll top six each of the past four seasons. Alabama was No. 1 and Florida No. 3 last season; Florida No. 1 and Alabama No. 6 in 2008; LSU No. 1 and Georgia No. 3 in 2007; and Florida No. 1 and LSU No. 3 in '06.
• Those eight teams were largely unbeatable -- except when facing their SEC peers. They were a combined 39-1 in nonconference games -- including seven dominant BCS bowl victories -- but still managed to lose 10 league games. If you want to underscore the much-discussed depth, understand that Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas and Auburn "

Come on Woodward, everyone knows that the most objective opinion comes from outsiders that are far from the region on which they opine.

..Pat Forde's complete third bullet:

• Those eight teams were largely unbeatable -- except when facing their SEC peers. They were a combined 39-1 in nonconference games -- including seven dominant BCS bowl victories -- but still managed to lose 10 league games. If you want to underscore the much-discussed depth, understand that Kentucky, South Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas and Auburn beat teams that either went on to win it all or finished in the top six.

Canes fans used to say nothing matters but NC's. Now they come in here and brag about a bunch of PRESEASON ACC team's rankings. That's just sad cane fan...very sad.

If Duhhh ACC won the last FOUR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, you'd quit your day labor job and post here full time.

Anybody with any cred on the national scene unequivocally states that the SEC is the premium conference. I don't give a flying shyt who the mid and bottom teams are in either conference. I look at the CHAMPIONS. something you have never been. You are ACC also rans.

It just underlines how far the canes have fallen.

Ha! Ha! Woodward total facial!

This is where cane fan yells, "what about Michigan?"

Ur phukking pathetic u conference doormat. run along.

Gators backups could beat the Canes starters they are so deep. Miami is going to be very disappointed they gave Shannon an extension this year.

canes are getting bamboozled with Shamwow. It's funny. When you look at what they have recruited lately, heir insistence that they are building something down there is laughable.

Your lies were already proven wrong yesterday. But here is a refresher:

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/13742676/grading-schedules-what-there-is-of-nonconference-slates?tag=coverlist_active;coverlist_footer

Miami's schedule? A-
Florida's schedule? D+

Miami's division? 4 ranked teams ALL above Georgia.
Florida's division? 21st ranked Georgia and four freebies.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings

And all SEC schools are ahead of ACC teams in SOS?

Miami is ranked 8th, best in the ACC thanks to their A- OOC schedule.
Florida is ranked 18th, only 6th (middle of the road for a 12 team conference) in the SEC thanks to their D+ OOC schedule.

South Carolina and Mississippi State are #2 and #4, but that leave TEN out of 12 SEC teams with a WEAKER schedule.

http://www.philsteele.com/Blogs/2010/june10/DBJune07.html

No way you can spin that to being a TOUGHER SOS. Yes, Randy Shannon is honest, but you sure are a pathetic liar worthy of working within CREEP. Here is a hint, read before posting an easy-to-prove lie. Randy Shannon did NOT say that, you made it up and it has been proven false.

Posted by: Beano's tuna sandwich

You delusional Gator fan. We are building something, a middle of the road team in the ACC! Randy and his team will play n any stadium, full or half full, anytime, anyplace.

Fact: Toledo's stadium seats 26,000
Fact: Sun Life seats 26,000 also but with a lot of tarps covering empty seats.

MYTH: The Canes got beaten up pretty good in the last game they played against a slow, mediocre Midwest team.

MYTH: The Gators last game, they destroyed the #3, undefeated team in the country who would have played for the National Title had Texas lost their conference championship game.

Posted by: Another Gator Liar.

FACT: Miami was within a touchdown and had the chance to win on their last drive, despite weather conditions and turf far more suited to that midwestern team. That truth is very different from your story.

FACT: Cincinnati was rudderless and demoralized as they lost their head coach to Notre Dame just before the bowl game, giving Florida a freebie win. That truth is very different from your story.

You can't take negative plays. When we were trying to run the football, we had miscues up front. The communication factor finally got us."

You do know that the SOS is fluid right?

Not according to your buddy Bernstein, who said that every team in the SEC had a better SOS than the Canes. Just like the lie about SEC being better than ACC academically, when I porved him wrong you then proceed to change the subject. When you make a comment like that, it should be backed up with facts. The facts were against him, no matter HOW "fluid" you want to claim the SOS is. Appalachian State and Miami of Ohio are not gonna suddenly become tougher than Pittsburgh and Ohio State, no matter HOW you try to spin your schedule as "tougher".

HE brought it up, not me. I just cleaned up his lies.

This is a Canes blog now, so get your lame arse home...Mommy's calling

From the recap in your link:

"Miami's Jacory Harris struggled before throwing a touchdown pass to Thearon Collier with 1:22 remaining. The Hurricanes recovered the onside kick, but Harris threw incomplete on fourth down to end any hope of a comeback."

Funny how you skipped the paragraph showing I was right.

And this is also from the recap, not an excuse, but an objective third party view:

"Miami also lost Graig Cooper to a right knee injury in the second quarter, a big reason why the Hurricanes (9-4) will have to wait at least another year to end their drought of 10-win seasons."

From the play by play in your link:

0:47 4th Mia-Fl 4th & 13 at Mia-Fl38 Harris incomplete pass to the left.

Hmm, so a 6 point loss, that went down to the last minute, after one touchdown was annulled by a ref's penalty and another by the "patchy turf" ripping out Cooper's knee. So, your link just helped to prove my point for me, you racist sicko.

Wow, a Gator fan bringing up "tears"? And in their usual all-caps tirade mode. I don't recall any Canes actually crying about a late unneeded and classless field goal. They expressed disappointment about the cheap score, and the lame justification that it was revenge for a 1980's FG Miami kicked versus UF, but no tears needed to be dried.

Do you guys PURPOSELY act hypocritical, or is it accidental every time?

Thanks A & O...I consider it a public duty, sort of like exterminating roaches and extracting Donna from the public men's rooms.

Get back to me when you have 5 'ships chump. Until then..

You have 3.5, like I have explained to you before, your 83' championship is bogus and your "split" one is also questionable. You aren't as good as you think you are.

48-0

Your pansy coach cried and so did your fan base. Wake up clown. What does miami know about class? stop being a moron. Army fatigues, end zone celebrations, luther campbell payouts, 7 floor crew, fiu rumble, get real cane clown. miami built itself being the opposite of class.

You aren't as good as you think you are.

Using your logic, sweetheart, you have...

This is exactly what happened to UM. Your school will only get smaller and smaller just like your fan base.

Hmm, that might help explain their delusional hatred for black quarterbacks.

Of course that racist diatribe pretending to be Randy Shannon shows why they suggested lynching Randy Shannon when he went to Gainesville. Nothing like having a group of racists running their fanbase and seeing other Gator fans meekly stand by accepting their racist and homophobic comments just because they are cheering for the same football team.

Posted by: All President Foley's Men | August 13, 2010 at 01:49 PM

Congrats to UM. While the colleges are expanding, the Athletic department is crumbling.

You're football program is toast and you have the stumbling mumbling coach to prove it. Talk about getting time shared? BHG has undergone hundreds of millions in expansions.

At least we GOT to the end zone to celebrate you immense tool. Now EVERYONE tries to mimick us!

oh thats right miami invented end zone celebrations, the nfl players at the time weren't doing end zone celebrations. nfl players were copying the who's players right? are you really that stupid? whats else did miami invent? the forward pass?

at the end of the day.....in 2010...we are a relevant top tier team and u are an irrelevant middle of the pack ACC team.

THOSE ARE THE FACTS BASED ON THE DATA.

And yet, a game hasn't been played in 2010, and this moron is quoting FACTS!

miami built itself being the opposite of class.

They have since rebuilt themselves as the top BCS school in graduating their student athletes, no arrests of current players, fewest celebration penalties, and showing so much class that Notre Dame is willing to play us again after years of being afraid, and even having their trolls call them "choirboys" for being so honest and classy and respectable.

Yet again, you sicko racist hypocrite troll, you are throwing stones that are hitting your glass house over and over again.

Gator flop, galen hall, charlie pell, multiple probations and nullified wins, stealing credit cards from dead girls and making the victim's family pay it off for six months, drinking and driving, shooting off AK-47s at assault victims just to see them get scared, 31 arrests and over 200 traffic citations, and trolls that attack Canes blogs night and day predicting the death of our QB and an 0-4 record, whose life goal seems to be to get to Grand Dragon status, DEFINITELY the opposite of class.

2010

duhh U under marble mouf ( the present dumb cane cluck)....IRRELEVANT. no conferences, no bcs bowls, no recruiting, no fans, no stadium, no money, no nothing. a middle of the pack ACC chump

UF under Urban Meyer ( also the PRESENT u dumb cane cluck) NC contender, Multiple NC's, Multiple SEC titles, SI's Coach of the Decade, Rabid fan base, 90,000 seat stadium looking for anyplace to add yet more seats, bottomless bank account, recruiting DOMINANCE,

You can post 100 more times about any and all topics. At the bottom of it all UF is a top tier program that is built for the long run and you are broke ass chumps struggling to regain relevance. u suk. IM OUT BIDTCHES.

whats else did miami invent? the forward pass?

Still wondering why Schnelly never went back to UM when he had plenty of chances to do so. Hopefully karma gets the sicko dancing on the graves of the deceased (a few posts up).

Talking smack about football is cool but besmirching the repute of the deceased is another...all in the name of retaliation for some phantom poster that has yet to be seen by anyone but this guy.
