GAINESVILLE -- For the first time since 2003, Florida will open the season unranked.
RON ZOOK RETURNS!
The Associated Press released its preseason poll Sunday, and the Gators stand as the consensus preseason No. 27 team in the country.
Like with the USA Today Amway coaches’ poll, Florida received the second-most “others” votes following its disastrous 4-8 season in 2013.
But the Gators will have plenty of opportunities to prove their naysayers wrong this fall. Florida plays six teams ranked in the preseason top 25, including No. 1 Florida State and No. 2 Alabama.
The Gators are the first team since 2010 Penn State to square off against the preseason top two teams, per Cecil Hurt of the Tuscaloosa News.
In all, eight Southeastern Conference teams are ranked in the preseason poll: Alabama (No. 2), Auburn (No. 6), South Carolina (No. 9), Georgia (No. 12), LSU (No. 13), Ole Miss (No. 18), Texas A&M (No. 21), Missouri (No. 24).
The real question: Where does Florida finish the season? Ranked or on the outside looking in?
