Jackie Gleason's "Color Honeymooners" come to DVD

It isn't strictly gay, but please read my latest article (and watch the Jackie Gleason Show video). The link is below:
Gleason's 'Honeymooners' -- episodes from '60s TV show on DVD BY STEVE ROTHAUS srothaus@MiamiHerald.com

Each week during his 1960s CBS variety show from ''the sun and fun capital of the world,'' Jackie Gleason proclaimed: ``The Miami Beach audience is the greatest audience in the world!''

''He yelled it and everybody heard it,'' said Gleason's widow, Marilyn, who still lives in Fort Lauderdale. ``That was part of his genius.''

Show-biz genius or PR hype by The Great One?

Modern-day audiences can judge for themselves. This week, the Gleason family has released nine uncut episodes of The Color Honeymooners on DVD (MPI Home Video, $40).

Joan Fleischman: Gloria hears Gloria

Emilio Estefan, César Taboada and Gloria Estefan
From Joan Fleischman's June 28 Talk of Our Town column:

The Miami Gay Men's Chorus played The Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road. The June 17 performance -- Miami: A Musical Mosaic -- included a Gloria Estefan tribute. In the audience: Gloria and hubby Emilio.

The 62-member ensemble performed an Estefan medley, including Conga and Turn the Beat Around, arranged by Larry Lapin, director of the jazz vocal program at University of Miami's Frost School of Music. Grand finale? A booming gospel rendition of Coming Out of the Dark.

Afterwards, the Estefans stuck around and greeted fans, says chorus artistic director Gary Keating. Baritone César Taboada, 45, a Warner Music Latina accountant, already framed a photo he had taken with the couple. Gloria, he says, ``grabbed me by the neck and gave me a kiss.''

Researchers: Men with older brothers more likely to be gay

BY RANDOLPH E. SCHMID Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Men who have several older brothers have an increased chance of being gay -- whether they were raised together or not -- a finding researchers say adds weight to the idea that sexual orientation is based in biology.

The increase was seen in men with older brothers from the same mother, but not those who had stepbrothers or adopted brothers who were older.

''It's likely to be a prenatal effect,'' said Anthony F. Bogaert of Brock University in St. Catharines, Canada, who did the research. ''This and other studies suggest that there is probably a biological basis'' for homosexuality.

Care Resource: We're suing Boy George

Media Release
Care Resource prepares to sue Boy George and Red Parrot Booking Agency; both neglected to return $8,400 DJ appearance deposit after drug arrest
Care Resource, South Florida's oldest and largest HIV/AIDS community care organization today announced the start of plans to sue former lead singer of Culture Club, performer Boy George and his booking agency Red Parrot over deposit funds that were never returned to the agency after his cocaine arrest.

Care Resource signed a contract on June 6, 2005 with Red Parrot for Boy George to be the celebrity guest DJ at the 21st Annual White Party at Vizcaya Mansion on Saturday, November 26, 2005 as part of White Party Week Miami, one of the worlds largest yearly HIV/AIDS fundraisers. The cost to the agency was $12,000 for Boy Georges DJ services, and $2,400 to Red Parrot as the booking agent. On August 4th a bank wire transfer went through to HSBC bank in London for $8,400 (1/2 Boy Georges fee as a deposit and the booking agency fee).

Boy George was arrested October Seventh on drug charges after he called 911 to report what he said was a pre-dawn burglary in his Manhattan apartment, when officers arrived they found a large amount of cocaine next to a computer. In correspondence with Red Parrot just one week after his arrest, George's booking agent, Johnston Pearce Walker stated "George will still be keeping to his scheduled contracted DJ dates".

On November 2, just three weeks before he was scheduled to perform, an email was again received from Johnston Pearce Walker, this time stating "It is with regret that Boy George is not going to be able to DJ at the White Party. We have been instructed by his management that we have to cancel his engagement on this date. This now means that we have had to cancel 11 USA dates. If you would assist us by giving us 14 days we would very much appreciate it. We want to ensure that everyone gets there money back and try to put this mess behind us"

An email on December 12 from Care Resource to Red Parrot stated "It has been more than 14 days since your last email and I hope your crisis has been resolved. We are sending an invoice to your organization for the amount of $8,400 which was paid to Red Parrot for the booking of Boy George".

Since that date many emails, letters and phone calls have been placed to the agency, all have gone unanswered.

Care Resource is not the only agency contemplating legal action against Red Parrot/Boy George. Chris Harris of Chris Harris Presents was producing a benefit for the Rhode Island AIDS ride in Providence and had scheduled Boy George to play their event directly after the White Party. Chris wire transferred to the same bank as Care Resource a deposit of $10,000 which to date has never been refunded. Like Care Resource, Red Parrot has not returned his calls, emails, nor letters. Chris stated that he will be flying to London next week to pursue it through the courts there.

"The $8,400 that Boy George and Red Parrot took from Care Resource would have paid the cost of primary medical care for 9 of our patients for a full year" stated Rick Siclari, Care Resource Executive Director.

Both agencies find it ironic that Boy George made a recent request to the Judge in his cocaine case, to let him serve community service by letting him DJ at HIV/AIDS benefits to pay for his crime. Both agencies ask that rather than Red Parrot/Boy George request for more DJ play dates, they return the money that they took from two HIV/AIDS agencies who had contracts with them in good faith almost a year ago. "We feel the judge should make them repay the debts they owe to the agencies they took the monies from" stated Terry DeCarlo, Public Relations and Marketing Manager for Care Resource, "and then, make George play this years benefit in November on his own dime".
