A nationally respected civil activist, preservationist, community leader and spokesperson for LGBT issues, HIV/AIDS and civil rights, Mr. Penelas served on various community boards, as well as on the Board of Advisors of Unity Coalition/Coalicion Unida.
Always outspoken and often controversial, Luis was a leader, friend and a bright light in our community. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his partner Ashley and all of his friends.
