Winter Party holds first event for gay youths

Dozens attended 'One Tribe, One Vibe,' a social mixer designed to provide a safe and supportive environment for gay youths.

Rey Bermudez, 36, thought it would be a great way to bond with his 16-year-old nephew Reymond: a gay uncle inviting his newly out namesake to a Parrot Jungle Island dance party for gay teens.

Turns out young Reymond Bermudez already knew about the ''One Tribe, One Vibe'' picnic. ''Our school trust counselor handed out fliers,'' the Southwest Senior High junior explained. ``About 15 kids from Southwest are going.''

The Bermudezes and dozens of other youths and adult chaperonswent to Saturday's picnic, the first youth-oriented event held by Winter Party Festival, an annual, weeklong South Beach ''circuit party'' that raises money for local gay groups and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.
