SAVE Dade endorses Beach candidates and responds to offensive flyer
From SAVE Dade:
In recent days, a flyer has been circulated around the City of Miami Beach presumably denigrating some of the candidates for Miami Beach City Commission, based, in part, on their race, ethnicity, or sexual orientation. The flyer also urges voters to: "Vote
for the candidate that looks like us."Among the candidates for Group VI, is Frank Kruszewski, a long time community activist
and an openly gay candidate who is a board member of SAVE. In responding to the flyer, Frank Kruszewski stated "It is clear that three specific candidates in the
Group VI race are being targeted in this mailer. It is ethnically bigoted, homophobic
and sexist."Commissioner Michael Gongora, currently running for re-election in Group V, stated "I have seen the piece and I am very offended by the content and do not believe the residents of the City of Miami Beach deserve or want this type of politicking in our community. Although, this piece is not a consequence of the Group V race, it is important that all candidates in all the races this year denounce this type of campaigning as wrong and not what the voters of Miami Beach want to hear. As a consequence of these recent activities and others I am proposing as part of the City Commission this October 17th a resolution strengthening the role of the Miami Dade Ethics Commissions jurisdiction as it relates to these negative activities in Miami Beach. Hopefully this will send a clear
message to all those who choose this type of campaigning that it will not be tolerated in our community and those who are found guilty will be dealt with as severely as our State, County and City of Miami Beach laws permits."SAVE Dade strongly condemns personal attacks based on race, gender, or sexual orientation
and urges that the citizens of Miami Beach elect their officials based on each candidate's merit and platform. Miami Beach residents will have the opportunity to elect fair-minded candidates this election cycle beginning Monday, you to go out and vote for our endorsed candidates.FOR MAYOR (co-endorsement)
