THE LATINO PRESS AWARDS CELEBRATING A SECOND YEAR ANNOUNCES SPECIAL AWARD RECOGNITION TO LILI ESTEFAN, CRISTINA SARALEGUI, JACKIE NESPRAL AND MIAMI BEACH MAYOR MATTI HERRERA BOWER
LBM and Memory Lane Event Planning in conjunction with Score Lounge present the Second Annual Latino Press Awards. The awards ceremony will be held May 13th, 2008 at 7:30PM at the prestigious Lincoln Theatre located at 541 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. Complete with star-studded entertainment, A-list celebrities and VIPS, it will be one of this summer’s hot ticket events. This year’s charity partners are Pets2Luv and Union Positiva.
“The awards ceremony has experienced incredible growth since last year and it has become much bigger than we had anticipated. It’s about coming together as a community and we’re so honored that Lili Estefan will receive recognition for her years of outstanding journalism in the entertainment industry, receiving the LPA Prestige Award,” said Adeilson George, LBM Publisher. “As a part of the media community dedicated to keeping Latinos informed of pressing issues, we’re so proud and humbled to have the opportunity to recognize such outstanding members of the community,” said Josue Santiago, LBM Editor.
Awards will be given for a potpourri of categories including: Columnist of the Year, Photographer of the Year, Outstanding Service to the Community, TV/Radio Programming of the Year, Performer of the Year, Night Club venue of the Year … and several others for the purpose of recognition within the GLBT community. This year’s festivities will also mark a wave of change in taking positive steps to create mainstream awareness.
Nominees in many of this year’s categories for 2008 include such recognized names as: Gary Santis for Gary Santis Events, Edison Farrow for SobeSocialClub.com, Amy Alonso, Alison Burgos and Yesi Leon for Pandora Events, Michael Gongorra, Former Commissioner of Miami Beach, Heddy Peña for Save Dade, Steve Rothaus, The Miami Herald Columnist, DJ/Producer Tracy Young, Dale Stine for DaleStine.com, Spanish Broadcasting Systems stations: Clásica 92.3, El Zol 95.7, Romance 106.7, Gen TV, Mega TV, Telemundo and Univision.
A special recognition will be given to Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower. Mayor Bower will be given the “Community Leadership” award. Her valiant move as a government and city official in South Florida will hopefully start a progressive movement of change. Released to the press on February 11th, the Mayor announced the creation and implementation of a gay business development committee to ensure strong futures of both the Miami Beach gay business and residential communities. The mission of the committee will be to bring recommendations to the Mayor and City Commission on how to lift and enhance the gay identity of Miami Beach, and how to make it more attractive and supportive for gay business, residents and tourists, such as creating a citywide gay pride event.
On hand at the Latino Press Awards will be Latin Grammy winner Jorge Moreno, world famous artist Carlos A. Navarro, WFOR anchor Marybel Rodriguez, and city officials to include Miami Beach Commissioner Richard Steinberg and Miami Beach Commissioner Saul Gross.
The LPA’s will be hosted by Cachita from Univision’s “El Gordo y La Flaca,” hosted by Lili Estefan and Raul de Molina. Also present as co-host will be Vixen from LBM’s own “Vix in the City.” Guests will also have the opportunity to experience quality, on-of-a kind entertainment with exclusive performances by Martha Luiza directly from Brazil, New York’s finest Angelique Ali and Machete Music’s First Lady, Kuky. Prior to the event, a Nomination Reception will be held March 31st at 9PM at Score Night Club to announce the list of nominees and how the public can vote for their favorite.
The Latino Press Awards has rapidly become recognized within the South Florida community since its inception in 2007. Created by LBM Publishing, the event is set to honor those business and media members whom have shown exemplary support to the gay Latino community and have remained dedicated to its causes throughout the year. The founders of the awards ceremony hope that this annual event will achieve goals of recognition, awareness and positive community outreach by collaborating with media, local community, local government and nonprofit organizations across the country.
