DJ/PRODUCER OREN NIZRI - MIXING MARVEL
When it comes to electronic music, Miami Beach has been a place of concentrated activity for renowned DJs from all over the globe. One DJ in particular, Oren Nizri, is one of those who have managed to find a niche in South Florida's celebrated club circuit. The spinmaster is one of the hottest imports from Israel since Wissotzky Tea, but credits his skills behind the turntables to the time he spent perfecting his talent in Europe.
DJ Oren's sound is a fusion of tribal beats and funky house, with a tinge of soul over sexy vocals reminiscent of a summer spent sipping mojitos and dancing the night away in Ibiza. He kicked off the start of his career spinning in some of Israel's largest nightclubs. In addition, this mixing marvel was a resident DJ of Tel Aviv's most popular radio station and hosted his own highly rated radio program called In My House. Aside from DJing in his native Israel, Oren has spun in some of Europe's most distinguished clubs, refining his skills to stay in tune with the latest in music trends.
After coming to realize that his musical style was an apt fit for the American club kids, Oren moved to South Florida in 2003. Under the representation of Give Me A Beat Productions, he has shown off his unparalleled turntable techniques at every major dance venue in Florida. He has even performed at music events across the nation. Oren has headlined an assortment of high-profile events, including everything from Art Basel Miami to Winter Music Conference events.
DJ Oren's productions have received rave reviews from industry professionals and his remixed joints are being played by top international DJs and producers. Since Oren now calls Miami home, he keeps esteemed residences and has made appearances in some of South Florida's top rated hotspots, including Karu & Y Ultralounge, Mansion, Metropolis, Halo Lounge, Tantra and Social Miami at Sagamore. IN THE SPOTLIGHT
MARK LOWE
MARK LOWE
Naughty and witty Mark Lowe is a multi-talented nightlife impresario who is better known in the South Florida nightlife industry as Mark of KA. Born in England and raised in California, Mark's stunning looks and natural sex- appeal almost forced him to start a modeling career when he was seventeen years old. Unfortunately, a snowboarding accident ended this episode of his life, but led him to start his studies in his next passion, art and interior design. Mark enrolled at the prestigious American River College in Sacramento, CA , and he graduated with honors. This former Wilhemina star's taste and unparalleled talent and skills can be easily perceived. Just to have a coffee or a short conversation with him is a journey of its own that explains his life experience and desires. He has been around the globe just as much as his art.
"I started sculpting in my early twenties, and I sold a good amount of large scale sculptures worldwide", explained the intense blond artist, as he continued: "My celebrity clients are endless and they include names such as Michael Jordan, David Geffen and Lenny Kravitz". In 2000, Mark moved to South Florida with the purpose of opening his own furniture line and his interior design firm, businesses that he has been running with a lot of notoriety. When asked about what is the key of that success, Mark humbly explained: "Without question, drive, focus and determination. It's a rare quality possessed by a person who never quits.Talent without willful force is simply useless", he says.
Since then, Lowe has been constantly traveling in and outside the United States designing a variety of challenging projects ranging from European mansions and world-class nightclubs to high- end lounges and contemporary buildings. His expertise, personality and demanding touch have put together blow away productions. As accomplished as Mark is, a different venture caught his interest around one year ago as he invested time and effort to refresh the nightlife industry in Fort Lauderdale.
"I decided to get involved with the nightlife industry because I wasn't seeing what I wanted to see", Mark stated, and he continued, "It was the same spaces, same ideas, same concepts. Thorughout history, gay people have been on the creative forefront, and that didn't reflect in the Fort Lauderdale scene. To be able to express myself artistically from the performances to our space was too powerful to resist". And Mark along with his business partners started KA Wednesdays and KA Fridays with tremendous success, once again.
"The scene today is very predictable. Everyone is hungry for something unique and different. The future of nightlife is lounges, not mega-clubs. The multi-format venue is what people want, a space to satisfy all tastes under one roof. We took a few months off just to acquire our own club. I am completely proud and honored to be part of the creation of our new venue Living Room. It will be a benchmark for Florida. We promise things never witnessed in a nightclub before and our main goal is to carry our revolutionary KA concept nationally", Mark emphasized. Also, when he is not working, Mark confessed: "I spend my free time watching movies, listening to amazing music and practicing ancient oriental sexual positions". Say no more.
For the joy of many, Living Room is schedule to open its doors in just a few more weeks. The former model-become- artist said: "Details will be unveiled in just a few more days, we are very ecstatic". His forceful, demanding and incredibly creative personality is finalizing all the details of his upcoming venture. The disco era, Studio 54, the paradise garage era, the Chicago house music invasion, the circuit scene. Could KA be the next big thing? We don't doubt it. After all, everything Mark Lowe touches seems to turn to gold. www.myspace.com/mark_ka

On Tuesday, May 13, the Lincoln Theater was filled with power attendees from all over South Florida, as the Second Annual Latino Press Awards took place in grand style. The production of the whole evening and the award ceremony was remarkable. One of the greatest messages that the event brought up was how necessary it is to be able to support each one of us to increase our sense of community, and how to work together to achieve respect and our goals. The ceremony was hosted by Vixen and Cachita, while the musical orchestration was provided by DJ/Producer Oren Nizri. The list of Miami notables that was in attendance is endless. The high-rises keep on building up on the Brickell area, almost as much as the chic up-and-coming hotspots. Segafredo Brickell, the all-in-one cafe, lounge and boutique nightclub, is filling the need of the Brickell partygoers, who had to drive to the Beach to party only until a few months ago. Not only that, but our hip locals, always on the lookout for the next big thing, are exploring the different and fascinating destinations that Brickell now has to offer. Segafredo Brickell is cozy, comfortable and intimate, perfect for a relaxed soiree filled with Italian-inspired cuisine, smooth beats and a low key ambiance. On the back of the 10,000 square feet indoor and outdoor space, Spazio Nero, its boutique nightclub, is more exclusive than inclusive. It occupies 2,000 square feet of the property and it's primarily used for private parties and bottle service. The area is very private with 20 tables lining each wall in a long, contemporary and dark room, hence its name. As the venue is in the middle of the financial district, the crowd is professional, distinguished and sophisticated, yet fun and very sexy. A refreshing change worth a drive of the Beach to experience. After all, it's just 10 minutes away! www.segafredobrickell.com

And continuing with the Brickell area, the luxurious Conrad Hotel at 1395 Brickell Avenue, also opened just a few months ago a sultry new dining and entertainment destination, Level 25. This spectacular hotel bar has nothing to do with the pool or beaches. Instead, it sits 250 feet above ocean level on the 25th floor of the elegant hotel, that offers spectacular city views and a delicious Latin/Asian-American fusion cuisine from renowned Chef Michael Gilligan. The location is reason enough to start the night with a Brickelltini, while Sea scallop tiradito and goat cheese empanadas pair pefectly. The good looking and courteous staff - who wear uniforms designed by Julian Chang - is very personable and knowledgeable, key for a memorable night out in the venue. Experience the fabulous views that Miami has to offer, it doesn't always need to be in front of the ocean. www.comradmiami.com
An Italian dining experience for the sophisticated and dedicated diner can be found at Sylvano South located in the heart of South Beach, on Collins Ave. Owner Sylvano Carrara moved to Miami from New York in 1993 and treasured Sports Cafe. Then in 2004, he went on to create the passionate, authentic Italian eatery that is now Sylvano. With another, more casual sister restaurant on Alton, Sylvano South features delicacies like the traditional Ossobucco alla Milanese, a veal shank braised with vegetables and red wine sauce over homemade risotto and homemade ravioli. Chef Franceso Giuzo is a master in keeping the menu exiting with an array of salads, chicken, meats and antipasti. The wood burning brick oven gives the breads and pizzas a true Italian texture. And the radiant outdoor terrace ensures a romantic Saturday night date or even a celebration among friends.
