Gay Men's Chorus salutes Armed Forces at June 13-15 shows Colony Theatre

News release:

Given that gay men have not been accepted openly for much of the history of the US Armed Forces, it may be surprising that the Miami Gay Men's Chorus shows from will honor Americans past and present who
served in the military. Titled "By the Sword: A Salute to the Armed Forces", the June 13-15 shows will be at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach.

"Former President Bill Clinton had a  'don't ask; don't tell' policy regarding gay people in the armed forces. Our focus- as always- is not on making political statements, but to bring entertainment from our vantage point that everyone can relate to," said Miami Gay Men's Chorus music director Anthony Cabrera.

"Those who served in the military were brave and made a sacrifice to that we all can be free. We are honoring everyone who ever served and had family in the armed forces. Our shows will not only honor those who are active in the armed forces now, but we will showcase songs going back to the nineteenth century," added Cabrera.

The shows will salute songs from many  generations of Americans who ever fought for their country. Songs range from the Civil War era (from Frank Wildhorn's "The Civil War") as well as popular big band standards from World War Two including feature songs from the plays "Miss Saigon" and "Hair".

A signature of the Miami Gay Men's Chorus concerts are choreographed dancing and special theatrical moments that add a flair to the shows.

"By The Sword: A Salute To The Armed  Forces"  starring Miami Gay Men's Chorus will take place June  13-15 at Colony Theatre, 1040 Lincoln Road Miami  Beach. Tickets range from $20-30 with a VIP reception on closing night. For showtimes and more information, go to www.miamigaychorus.org call 305- 604-8787.
