Interesting. The original source is a brazilian blog, that itself lists no source for its information.
But sucks for Venezuelan fans of Cyndi Lauper, and homosexuals in Venezuela.

Chavez doesn't control the press in Venezuela, quite the opposite. For years Chavez has been mercilessly attacked by a media owned by the Venezuelan elites. The statement by perezhilton that "the government has a death grip on the Venezuelan press" is nothing but bat guano.
Kylie Minogue has performed in Venezuela and she supports LGBT rights.
Lauper's own website says the concert has ended:
Sat/Nov-29 Caracas Aula Magna UCV ENDED (0)

Nothing about this viral story in El Universal, a major Venezuelan daily which is in the "death grip" of Chavez's opposition.

Nothing there when I did a "Busca" on Lauper.

This whole thing appears to be reactionary BS.
Chavez is on record wanting protection for gay rights in teh Constitution, and regretting the Catholic Church lobbying successfully against during the drafting of the constitution in '99.
I've seen posts in a cyndi lauper forum that say the concert was cancelled by the promoters long ago, and others that say there was no publicity or ticket sales before the show.

1. Chavez supports LGBT rights - and is on record supporting LGBT rights. This third party fan site is wrong.
2. Chavez was democratically elected 2 times, and the elections were approved and overseen by many international voting boards who deemed Venezuelan elections among the most clean of any in the word.

chavez is an actor, that`s all, you`ll hear from
him what you want to hear, as a president is a fraud; many venezuelans died in 1992 (February and later in November) when he attempted a coup to a democratic goverment. You must come and live for a few weeks to understand that it`s a sick and corrupt goverment like Zimbawe "president" mugabe who has been "elected" many times while hundreds are dying unemployed and
meanwhile Zimbawe fell into hyperinflation

CONSIDERING THAT CHAVEZ PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL REFORMS SUPPORTING GAY RIGHTS, THIS INFORMATION IS EVIDENTLY FALSE.
