MIAMI LIGHT PROJECT PRESENTS MARGA GOMEZ’ LONG ISLAND ICED LATINA

As part of the South Beach Comedy Fest, Miami Light Project proudly presents the hilarious Marga Gomez’ one woman show Long Island Iced Latina on Wednesday, January 21, 2008 at the Colony Theater on Lincoln Road.

In Long Island Iced Latina, Marga Gomez pours a long tall drink of cultural confusion, chronic virginity and mother daughter instability. What begins as a hilariously dark memoir of Gomez as the only brown girl in a white high school morphs into an intoxicating manifesto for Latinos who can’t speak Spanish, suck at Salsa, and suffer from Blonditis. “We’re everywhere!” Gomez claims. “And we vote!”

Marga Gomez, who as been described as a “Latina Lily Tomlin” and as a “Lesbian Larry the Cable Guy,” is the winner of the GLAAD Award for Off-Broadway Theater and a Drama Desk Award nominee. She is the writer /performer of five critically acclaimed solo plays and two others that weren’t too bad. Gomez is also one of America’s first openly gay comedians with appearances on LOGO network, Comedy Central and PBS. For her third engagement with Miami Light, Gomez will serve up Long Island Iced Latina a new solo comedy that sold out Joe’s Pub as part of Teatro Stagefest in 2007.

During her residency in Miami, Marga will lead workshops for students at Design and Architecture Senior High School as well as Pridelines Youth Services.

Additionally, Marga Gomez will also speak during a free panel discussion, Race, Sex and Gender, co-presented with TigerTail Productions on Monday, January 19, 7:30 pm, at the Light Box at Miami Light Project, 3000 Biscayne Boulevard, Suite 100, Miami. The panel includes noted Jamaican lesbian poet Staceyann Chin. Other participants will be announced.
