Central Florida Bulletin update on Ryan Skipper murder trial:
State Attorney Castillo, in his closing statement on Wednesday, confirmed that Ryan Skipper's murder was a hate crime.
He said early in his 90 minute closing that Ryan was murdered for 3 reasons:
1) robbery
2) witness elimination
3) sexual preference
He stated that the murderers considered Ryan's life "less precious, less important, less significant" because he was gay.
"He was weak, a faggot," and the murder was "not a big deal" to them.
His strongest statement came in rebuttal after the defense closing statement. Castillo said the brutality of Ryan's murder indicated "hatred, contempt and utter disregard for another human being because he was gay."
