GLAAD: Advertisers pull from Sacramento radio station after anti-transgender comments

News release from GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation:

National advertisers including Snapple, Chipotle and Sonic announced that they are pulling advertising from Sacramento radio station KRXQ after GLAAD issued a Call to Action when two radio hosts spent 30 minutes promoting child abuse against transgender children: http://www.glaad.org/Page.aspx?pid=730.

One of the dehumanizing quotes from the original program:

ROB WILLIAMS [17:45]: Dawn, they are freaks. They are abnormal. Not because they’re girls trapped in boys bodies but because they have a mental disorder that needs to be somehow gotten out of them. That’s where therapy could help them.

KRXQ radio hosts Rob and Arnie did not issue an apology after the station was flooded with e-mails and voicemails but did discuss transgender people and children the following day. GLAAD contacted Dawn Rossi, a host who defended the transgender community, with information and resources to combat Rob and Arnie's hateful words.

We will be updating www.glaadblog.org as additional advertisers pull their ad buys and the community continues to demand action from KRXQ.
