I spent an hour Thursday speaking with former Massachusetts state Sen. Jarrett Barrios, who in September becomes new president of GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Barrios, 40, is currently president of the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Foundation of Massachusetts.
He is married to communications and political consultant Doug Hattaway and they are fathers of two sons, Javier, 17, and Nathaniel, 13.
Barrios was born in Fort Lauderdale; Hattaway in Tallahassee. “We’re a Florida family,” he told me at the new W hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach.
