Judy Shepard spoke and answered questions about her son, Matthew Shepard, Monday night at Books & Books on Lincoln Road in South Beach. Shepard has been in South Florida promoting her new memoir, The Meaning of Matthew.
Among the most difficult challenges for Shepard after Matt’s beating death in 1998: meeting other families who have also lost gay children in hate crimes.
“It’s becoming a growing club of parents who’ve lost children to hate,” Shepard told a capacity audience. “Meeting other parents sends me into a tailspin.”
