Fort Lauderdale Chamber celebrates successful first year of Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange

News release from Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce:

Fort Lauderdale, FL – October30, 2009 – The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the first anniversary of its Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange (GLBX).

The GLBX was founded on July 24, 2008 to foster a unified voice for gay and lesbian businesses in Southeast Florida and to open new opportunities for business-to-business networking among the diversity of businesses in the greater Fort Lauderdale community.

“The Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce recognizes the positive contributions of the gay and lesbian community within our city and surrounding area as being a major driver to our local economy,” says Mark Ketcham, partner with BackusKetcham Group and Chairman of the GLBX. “As the mission of the Chamber is to drive economic growth for the greater community, it was recognized that the Gay and Lesbian Community needed to be included in a manner to unite and connect, giving an inclusive voice to continue to attract new Gay and Lesbian businesses.”

“We are passionate about communicating the buying power of the gay consumer,” adds Ilene Berliner, account executive with Creative Ad Images and Vice Chairperson of the GLBX. “We know that business connections are what make a difference in these challenging economic times.”

Mark Budwig, president of S. Mark Graphics, originally conceived the idea for the GLBX. Ketcham, Berliner and a handful of other chamber members, who committed to participate on a steering committee to bring the idea to life, soon joined Budwig. Today, the GLBX is 280 members strong and growing.

“It is the Chamber’s mission to enhance our members’ business profitability,” says Budwig. “As members of the only chamber in Broward County that recognizes the gay and lesbian business community, GLBX members have the opportunity to network with over 1400 other businesses, develop relationships and expand their businesses.”

GLBX events are held the second and fourth Thursday of each month, from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. These fun networking events are hosted by GLBX member businesses at their locations throughout greater Fort Lauderdale. GLBX events are free to all members of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and their guests.
