Sidelines Sports Bar, Team Sidelines members raise more than $10,000 for the Smart Ride

News release from Sidelines Sports Bar:

sidelines Fort Lauderdale, Florida – November 21, 2009 – The night was extra special, not only because Sidelines Sports Bar’s SMART Ride “Party for Charity” was a huge success by all accounts, but above all it was truly a night of firsts. For the first time since its opening, Sidelines closed its doors to the general public for a private and exclusive fundraising party. For the first time ever, Sidelines offered celebrity entertainment such as Nikki Adams, who hosted the evening’s events with glamour and poise, and Nicolette, who stirred the hearts of many with an energy-filled performance. And, for the very first time, Sidelines along with the 16 members of Team Sidelines raised the most money in one night for a charitable cause. The evening’s tally from this special party was a whopping $10,102.50! Thus far, the total funds generated by Team Sidelines for the SMART Ride totals over $12,000!

Guests enjoyed a two hour open bar, hors d’ oeuvres, graciously donated by Galanga Restaurant, Hi-Life Café and Humpy’s, all in Wilton Manors, and J. Mark’s Restaurant of Pompano Beach. A special Silent Auction with many items, such as sports memorabilia, original artwork and local merchant’s gift certificates, a 50/50 Raffle, and other prizes & giveaways.

This unprecedented happening was the main fundraising effort of Team Sidelines, the 16 member group of cyclists riding in the two-day, 165 mile bicycle ride from Miami, FL to Key West, FL for the SMART Ride, also known as The Southernmost AIDS/HIV Ride. The SMART Ride’s benefiting agencies include AIDS Help, Inc., Broward House, Hug Me, The Center for Positive Connections, and Metropolitan Charities, Inc.

The team has already held two car washes, sold Jell-O shots in the bar, held a Cut-A-Thon at a local hair salon, and plans are in the works for another car wash to be held on Saturday, December 19, 2009. On top of these fundraisers, the team trains together cycling over 40 miles each day throughout Fort Lauderdale as they prepare for the 165 mile-trek to Key West.

“We are so proud of the efforts of Team Sidelines thus far”, stated Marty Kildea, co-owner of Sidelines Sports Bar. “The success of this party just proves to us that when we work together, our community can accomplish tremendous things”, remarked Laurie Whittaker, Sidelines’ co-owner.
