Babak Movahedi becomes Miami Beach special master, resigns from city’s LGBT Business Enhancement committee

babakBabak Movahedi, owner of MOVA lounge (formerly Halo) off Lincoln Road, has resigned from the Miami Beach LGBT Business Enhancement committee, which he chaired. The reason: Movahedi, an attorney, has been appointed a special master for Miami Beach.

Here’s the resignation letter Movahedi sent Tuesday to Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower:

Dear Matti:

It is with a mixed feeling of joy and sadness that I write this letter of resignation effective at the conclusion of today’s meeting from the Miami Beach LGBT Business Enhancement Committee. Over the past two years, I have had the honor of serving as Chair of first, the Mayor’s LGBT Committee that, with your approval and that of the Commission became a standing committee in its current form. As a community, we have come a long way since you first became the Mayor and through your vision and commitment to our community, you have shown your unwavering support. On behalf of a grateful community, please accept my heartfelt thanks for your leadership. We have a long way to go and I know that the next chair will work closely with you and the Commission to fill the mission set out for the Committee.

As you know, I am humbled and honored to be appointed as a Special Master by the Chief Special Master and I look forward to serving Miami Beach in my new role.

Thank you again for your friendship and support.

Sincerely yours,

Babak Movahedi
