Until we have equality for all Americans, LGBT people need to take extra measures in life and estate planning to protect themselves and their loved ones from the potentially devastating effects of a biased system. At this free Life Planning Symposium, our professionals will place special emphasis on the important legal documents to have in place for your family's protection, and the changing legal landscape for same-sex couples.
Topics to be discussed include: What does Florida's constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage mean for you and your future? What steps do you need to organize your life plans, whether formally partnered or not? What impact does federal law have upon the rights of same-sex couples, particularly regarding estate and gift tax issues? How will those issues impact the way you manage your finances as a couple? How will your relationship be respected in other jurisdictions if you move or travel?
We hope to see you at the event!
P.S. We are also holding life planning events in Ft. Lauderdale on March 1 and in Palm Beach on March 3; if you or a friend are interested, feel free to contact us for more information.
If you can't attend this event or have other questions about life planning (including planning for the possibility of you or your partner becoming disabled, property ownership, retirement and how you can support the issues you care about) please contact Lambda Legal's Office of Life Planning and Planned Giving at 206-588-1938 or email JOKelley@lambdalegal.org
