'NARTH takes seriously the accusations that have been made' against George Rekers; says scandal won't detract from group's 'important work'

From the National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH):

NARTH RESPONDS TO THE RECENT MEDIA COVERAGE OF DR. GEORGE REKERS

rekersThe National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality (NARTH) is a professional scientific organization with hundreds of academic, research, and clinical members dedicated to assisting individuals dealing with unwanted homosexual attractions. While NARTH is focused on the science of homosexual attraction, personal controversies often deepen the existing cultural divide on this issue. Such is the case in the recent news stories concerning one of our members, Dr. George Rekers.

NARTH takes seriously the accusations that have been made, and we are currently attempting to understand the details behind these press reports. We are always saddened when this type of controversy impacts the lives of individuals, and we urge all parties to allow a respectful and thorough investigation to take place.

At this difficult time for the families and individuals involved, we extend our sympathies. We also wish to reiterate our traditional position that these personal controversies do not change the scientific data, nor do they detract from the important work of NARTH.

NARTH continues to support scientific research, and to value client atonomy, client self-determination and client diversity.

CORE COMMENT: "We are always saddened when this type of controversy impacts the lives of individuals"

There you have it -- NARTH does not consider the tens of thousands of gay people whose lives it has ruined 'individuals', because they certainly aren't saddened by the lives they've harmed and the families they've torn apart.

Lying "Christian" hypocrites who wh*re junk science testimony for tax payer dollars = individuals who deserve compassion

Gay couples together for decades who want to adopt an unwanted child and have a family = sick perverts

Narth, you are shameless.

While Rekers' founding of the Family Research Council has been noted prominently, Rekers is also a board member with the American College of Pediatrics, a religious activist group with no affiliation with the American Academy of Pediatrics (the actual medical body that represents pediatricians). Last month, the ACP launched a campaign called "Facts About Youth," and began contacting educators to spread their lies about homosexuality. The AAP has declared the ACP literature to be scientifically baseless.

But the campaign scored an important victory. Religious radicals in Canada used ACP pseudoscience to successfully stop the Ontario government's proposed new education curriculum, which would have included classmates with two mommies in discussions about tolerance and respect. Many curriculum opponents cited Reker's ACP as the source of their belief that any contact with openly gay people causes "confusion" in children.

My partner of 19 years and I would have made great parents if Gay Adoption had been permitted in Florida where we then lived -- however, because of religiously-mitivated hateful slime like Rekers that was impossible. The religious fundamentalists, whether Christian or Muslim, are serious dangers to the future of humanity. They've a serious cognitive disorder.

His family must be so proud.

The only good that comes from something as hideous as this story is that TRUTH wins out. Lies and more lies to cover up the living of a lie only serves to discredit your entire organization. No matter what one's opinion is of NARTH, they would do well to immediately distance themselves from Mr. Rekers instead of making some generic, flat statement. More plainly to NARTH: Don't pretent to be a gentle sheep all of a sudden when you have been behaving like a wolf all along.
