Here’s an open letter from Jodi Savitz of Fort Lauderdale, who is in her senior year at Northwestern:

To the South Florida lesbian and bisexual women’s community:

My name is Jodi Savitz. I am a student from Ft. Lauderdale, and am entering my senior year at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. I am also a four-time scholarship recipient of the Aqua Foundation Scholarship for students.

I am proud to have received the support of the Aqua Foundation for the past four years, and now look forward to giving back to our community. To do that, I need YOUR help!

As a gender studies major, I am conducting an extensive research study on the gender presentation and relationship dynamics between Latina women in lesbian relationships. The project will involve the Latina lesbian community of the Miami and Ft. Lauderdale areas. To date, no scholarly study has been conducted on the lesbian community in Miami, Florida.

I am looking for Latina, lesbian or bisexual identified women between the ages of 18 and 55 to participate in a survey study on gender identity and relationship preferences.

Research is designed to benefit society by gaining new knowledge. From this study, I hope to gain knowledge about the intersection of ethnic culture and gender presentation surrounding the Latina lesbian community. Although you may not benefit personally from being in this research study, the community as a whole will benefit by being recognized and studied for its unique culture and characteristics.

The project will be conducted entirely as an academic piece of writing; therefore your responses to this survey are entirely confidential. Your name will never appear or be recorded during the survey process.

Quite simply, I am looking for open and honest responses to a quick set of questions. If you are interested in participating in this project, please click the link and follow the instructions on the survey page. It will take approximately 5 minutes to complete this survey.

If you have any questions about the survey process or want to hear more about this project, please contact me at JodiSavitz2007@u.northwestern.edu.

Thank you for your participation, and I look forward to seeing the variety of responses!
