News release from Broward Center for the Performing Arts:
Area High School students offered opportunity to experience the arts
FORT LAUDERDALE – The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is accepting applications for the 2011-2012 Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program which is open to Broward County high school students who are interested in the performing arts.
During the last school year, Broward Center Teen Ambassadors worked backstage with the crew of the Broadway blockbuster Wicked, participated in a dance workshop with the cast members of Burn the Floor and saw more than three dozen performances from every genre including Broadway, ballet, opera and classical music. Some appeared on camera conducting “red carpet” interviews for regional theater award shows and others had a close-up introduction to authentic Broadway costumes. Along the way, the students wrote in excess of 150 reviews and used social media including Facebook and Twitter to discuss their experiences with approximately 3,000 friends.
Sara Miller, a senior at Cooper City High School who took part in last year's successful inauguration of the program, said “I am so glad that I was chosen to be a part of this program because not only do I get to enjoy some great shows, but I also get to share my experiences and encourage my community to develop an interest in art and culture."
