The hills are alive: 'Sing-a-long Sound of Music' 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at Miramar Cultural Center

News release from Miramar Cultural Center:

MIRAMAR – From Sydney, Australia to London, England and from San Francisco to New York, people dressed as nuns, goat herders and brown paper packages tied up with string have joined the cast of a five-time Academy Award winning movie as part of Sing-A-Long Sound of Music. Now the big-screen, world-wide audience participation phenomenon that CNN calls "a hoot," comes to the Miramar Cultural Center | ArtsPark on Sunday, December 4 at 3 p.m.

The festivities get under way with a pre-show costume contest for great prizes followed by a vocal warm-up and tips on how to create a family-friendly Rocky Horror Picture Show-type experience using the props each audience member is given in a free "magic moment’s pack."

Once the lights dim and the screening begins in glorious Technicolor and digital sound, subtitled lyrics will make the theater come alive with the sound of music as everyone learns to sing with the onscreen lesson "Do-Re-Mi." Along the way there are opportunities to applaud the film's star Julie Andrews, boo the Nazi's, wave Edelweiss and help the nuns handle a problem like Maria.

In her book Letters to Liesl, Charmian Carr, who portrayed Liesl in the film, wrote of her excitement of attending the new screenings, "I'd never seen anything like it and I've never had so much fun….It's a wonderfully delicious event, born of infectious fun."

With their proof of purchase, audience members may obtain a discount to Costume World in Deerfield Beach which boasts original costumes from more than 35 Broadway productions.

Tickets to Sing-A-Long Sound of Music are $12 and are available at 954-602-4500 or select your seat online at http://www.miramarculturalcenter.org. Box office fees will apply.
