'People like [Perry strategist] Tony Fabrizio should be ashamed,' say GOProud gay conservative Republicans

GOProud, the national group of gay conservative Republicans, has issued a statement a day after co-founders Jimmy LaSalvia and Christopher R. Barron sent out tweets that outed Miami Beach's Tony Fabrizio, a pollster-strategist for Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Florida Gov. Rick Scott:

GOProud Statement on Tony Fabrizio – Pollster and Strategist for Governor Rick Perry’s Presidential Campaign

Joint Statement of Jimmy LaSalvia, Executive Director & Christopher R. Barron, Chairman of the Board

(Washington, D.C.) – “From the time this organization was founded we have been clear in our opposition to outing. We would never intentionally out anyone. However, in the case of Tony Fabrizio, top pollster and chief strategist for the Presidential campaign of Texas Governor Rick Perry, we did not believe there was any question about his sexual orientation – nor did the reporters who called us to ask about his involvement in Perry’s anti-gay campaign strategy. Questions about an individual’s sexual orientation should obviously be answered by that individual.

“Let us be crystal clear, however, Tony Fabrizio is not the victim here. Tony Fabrizio has lined his pockets for years with money from gay groups and is now one of the chief architects of a campaign strategy – not just an isolated television ad – intended to demonize gay people in order to score political points. Fabrizio claims he opposed the latest anti-gay Perry television ad. If Fabrizio really does oppose the ad and the broader strategy then the honorable and decent thing to do would be to resign from the campaign. Tony Fabrizio is no junior staffer he is one of the top campaign pollsters and strategists in the country.

“It is obvious that the campaign of Rick Perry is desperate, and in a desperate last ditch effort to become relevant in the GOP Presidential race he and his campaign have decided to employ a strategy that plays to the cheap seats and appeals to the worst in people. Rick Perry should be embarrassed and the people around him who are the architects of this strategy, particularly people like Tony Fabrizio, should be ashamed.”

tRick Perry is a sleazy character and one thats really ill informed, I wonder how he became the Governor of such a large state?

Perry? Our next election could be as big of a sham as the last. Do you know why Sarah Palin's bus tour was really canceled? Do you know why she stayed 30 miles away from the second debate and chose the death of Steve Jobs to announce that she's not running? Know what leaked out? She's dodging the media now because of this

@Steve Smith - Another case of who you know and (obviously) not what you know.

I was a Republican for a few years --- 'til I found Prozac. The entire Republican Party has only three relatively sane Congress critters; The two Senators from Maine and my representative (Ros-Lehtinen). That's it.

The Tea Party, which Baron and La Salvia think they are a part of, is simply an extension of ultra conservative Christians.

No pun intended, but screw Fabrizio.

Ros-Lehtinen and Snow (R-Maine) and her fellow Maine senator (R-Maine) are occasionally gutless and vote "present" (see Cordray appointment vote). Dear Ros is in the pocket of Cuban-American interests. But, I agree that they're better than my new and soon to be ex- Sen Scott Brown and his brethren on the right.

I authored a more complete reply to this nonsense here: http://www.slowlyboiledfrog.com/2011/12/gops-willing-accomplices.html

To tell you the truth, I remain uncertain if GOProud are accomplices, enablers or co-participants.

Davidcaryhart shows an astonishing lack of understanding of what the Tea Party is about. Hint: Rick Perry isn't a conservative. Neither is Newt Gingrich. For example, Barry Goldwater, torchbearer for the modern conservative movement, was himself against Don't Ask, Don't Tell before Democrats were against it.

It'd be amusing how thoroughly the Democratic Party has managed to co-opt the LGBT movement, if it wasn't so depressing.

And the two Senators from Maine (who voted for Obama's infinite detention bill) don't get any respect from me either.
