Grace will remain married to her wife Heather. "For me, the most terrifying thing about this was how she would accept the news," Gabel tells Rolling Stone. "But she's been super-amazing and understanding."

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina voters approved a constitutional amendment Tuesday defining marriage solely as a union between a man and a woman, becoming the latest state to effectively slam the door shut on same-sex marriages.
With 35 percent of precincts reporting Tuesday, unofficial returns showed the amendment passing with about 58 percent of the vote to 42 percent against. North Carolina is the 30th state to adopt such a ban on gay marriage.
Tami Fitzgerald, who heads the pro-amendment group Vote FOR Marriage NC, said she believes the initiative awoke a silent majority of more active voters in the future.
"I think it sends a message to the rest of the country that marriage is between one man and one woman," Fitzgerald said at a celebration Tuesday night where supporters could have their photo taken beside a seven-layer white wedding cake.
They later cut into the cake, with Fitzgerald taking the first slice.
"The whole point is simply that you don't rewrite the nature of God's design based on the demands of a group of adults," she said.

Gay children's book author Maurice Sendak is dead:

NEW YORK -- Maurice Sendak didn't think of himself as a children's author, but as an author who told the truth about childhood.
"I like interesting people and kids are really interesting people," he explained to The Associated Press last fall. "And if you didn't paint them in little blue, pink and yellow, it's even more interesting."
Sendak, who died early Tuesday in Danbury, Conn., at age 83, four days after suffering a stroke, revolutionized children's books and how we think about childhood simply by leaving in what so many writers before had excluded. Dick and Jane were no match for his naughty Max. His kids misbehaved and didn't regret it and in their dreams and nightmares fled to the most unimaginable places. Monstrous creatures were devised from his studio, but no more frightening than the grownups in his stories or the cloud of the Holocaust that darkened his every page.
Gallup reports that 50 percent of Americans believe same-sex marriage should be legalized with the same rights as traditional marriage.

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The national debate over gay marriage is turning its attention South.
North Carolina could be the next state to pass a constitutional amendment defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman. Voters are casting their ballots Tuesday.
In the final days before the vote, members of President Barack Obama's cabinet expressed support for gay marriage and former President Bill Clinton recorded phone messages urging voters to oppose the amendment.
People against the amendment also responded with marches, television ads and speeches, including one by Jay Bakker, son of televangelists Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker.
The Rev. Billy Graham was featured in full-page newspaper ads supporting the amendment. Other amendment backers have arranged sermons in churches and run their own television ads.
Experts expect the measure to pass.

Lindsey, 89, suffered long-declining health and recently broke his hip.
In addition to the Carnegie Hall concert, Lindsey conducted The Judy Garland Show in 1963-64, as well as Garland's final film, I Could Go on Singing.
He won an Emmy for Barbra Steisand's TV special, A Happening in Central Park and also worked with Garland's daughter, Liza Minnelli, in her award-winning TV concert, Liza With a Z.
For 25 years, Lindsey also was musical director for The Merv Griffin Show.
