News release from the Obama-Biden reelection campaign:
CHICAGO, IL – Today, Obama for America will hold a press conference call with OFA LGBT National Vote Director Jamie Citron and National Campaign Co-Chair Joe Solmonese to announce the national launch of Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for Obama.
The President’s campaign has a long history of working with the LGBT community to move America forward. The President believes that America prospers when we’re all in it together; when hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded; when everyone, from Main Street to Wall Street, does their fair share and plays by the same rules.
Obama Pride: LGBT Americans for Obama is launching with trainings, phone banks and house parties in a number of states including Pennsylvania, Colorado, Nevada and Michigan. Grassroots LGBT volunteers will organize neighborhood by neighborhood and block by block, talking to their friends, family and coworkers.
For generations, Americans have worked continuously to ensure everyone has access to opportunities and is treated fairly under the law. President Obama is committed to continuing that tradition. That’s why he has made it a priority to advance equality for all Americans.
From repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, to signing the Hate Crime Prevention Act into law, to prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity in the federal government, LGBT Americans have seen more progress under the Obama Administration than ever before.
