A former North Miami Beach employee is seeking her job back after the city overturned a unanimous vote by the city’s Civil Service Board to reinstate her.
In her lawsuit against the city filed May 29, Debbie Fernandez alleges that she was laid off — as a lone employee — by the city in October 2011 for being a “whistleblower” after turning in her boss to city officials when he asked employees to buy him marijuana; for being a lesbian; and for complaining that she was discriminated against for being a lesbian.
