Log Cabin Republicans: No ill will toward gay politician Scott Herman for becoming a Democrat

A statement sent Wednesday by A. Jay (Andy) Eddy of the Broward County Log Cabin Republicans club:

Broward LCR Florida Learns of Scott Herman's Switching Political Hats

The Board of Directors of the Broward Log Cabin Club of Florida officially learned on Tuesday afternoon that on Monday, December 17th, Scott Herman, who became a club member last year, had switched his political affiliation.

Steve Rothaus of the Miami Herald contacted Andy of LCR Broward on Tuesday asking him of his opinion since he was Herman’s volunteer campaign Treasurer. He responded that “Scott, after his political setback, said he and others are thinking of a party change, but, I was never officially informed that he already had, on Monday, formally moved to do so.”

According to Sandy Steen, the club’s V.P., “ Regarding his being distraught over the alleged lack of physical and financial support offered by Florida's GOP leaders, Scott and his campaign manager, Nick Stone, also had difficulty receiving any backing whatsoever from the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund who apparently kept losing documentation.”

Jack Majeske, LCR Broward’s club President noted, “I didn’t know Herman all that well but since he was relatively new to the community many believed that he should have run for a Wilton Manor’s Commission seat initially before tackling a State House Seat held by a well know minority Candidate.”

While the LCR Broward Board of Directors expressed its disappointment over Herman's philosophical metamorphosis they wished him no ill will but understand that club members will face doctrine challenges in any future campaigns Scott and the DEC deem appropriate for the candidate to tackle.

Mr. Eddy,

I read your statement and Mr. Herman's statement in the prior story

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/gaysouthflorida/2012/12/scott-herman-a-longtime-gay-republican-becomes-a-democrat-after-2012-legislative-loss.html

about him changing to become a democrat. I was out at the poles and noticed that in most of the races which included Mr. Herman's race. That I would see tens of Democrats out at the poles every day.

Why where the Republican's not out at poles such as at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center, Wilton Manors City Hall, Lauderhill Mall, Plantation Library for the most part? Are Gays, African-Americans, Jews, Latino, and such ignored by Republicans? As we all saw first hand.

Also could you, Mr. Jack Majeske, LCR Broward’s club President, or Ms. Sandy Steen, the club’s V.P. clarify a statement “Regarding his being distraught over the alleged lack of physical and financial support offered by Florida's GOP leaders, Scott and his campaign manager, Nick Stone, also had difficulty receiving any backing whatsoever from the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund who apparently kept losing documentation.” My question is simple.

In looking at the National Log Cabin site and a simple goggle search. I found that Mr. Herman was the openly gay republican running for a State House here in Florida.

But yet Mr. Cooper the Director saw fit to not help Mr. Herman, but they did help other gays running for a State seats in other States and the such, and had even endorsed Mr. Herman back around early 2000 to 2004 time frame.

And in reading past press releases in SFGN, Mr. Cooper the Director of the National Log Cabin treated the Broward Log Cabin chapter unprofessionally.

How can your group say Mr. Herman was distraught over the alleged lack of support, when his campaign finance reports and press statements with even mailers sent out clearly show the Republican Party of Florida and the National Log Cabin Organization both turned their backs on Mr. Herman and the majority of the Republican candidates here in Broward that were not incumbents.

Where were the local county Republican Volunteers? Or did they also do nothing more than talk or talk on the phone calling even my house for the Presidential candidate but not once mentioned the local house races.

I even recall my neighbor getting mailers saying “vote republican” and saying support for other candidates but not Mr. Herman nor were any others running that not incumbents.

I have to wonder why any of you guys would be upset with Mr. Herman when it seems all he got was a few dollars, nice words and a knife in the back.

Please correct me if anything I have said is wrong. I'm really interested why Mr. Herman switched when he actually longer than the 23 years plus since he registered to vote at 18 as a republican, since records show he was president or such of the teen Republicans.

Looks like Mr. Herman was a true southern gentleman and someone or a number of something just really made him switch. And I would expect in what I have read about Mr. Herman, for him to go Democrat you guys just lost someone for the remainder of his lifetime and he is not just another Charlie pulling a flip flop.

lol...do you like chocolate vanilla or strawberry?
