Bromstad's business booming: 'Color Splash' star to be honored Saturday by Miami-Dade gay chamber

Celebrity interior designer David Bromstad, already busy with two HGTV programs, has embarked on what may be his biggest project yet: creative consultant for the proposed River Landing Development, a $200 million, two million-square-foot mixed-use project on the Miami River.

“I’ll be in charge of all the interior design, plus artwork outside, benches, lighting, installations of really cool trees,” said the Color Splash and HGTV Star host of the 444-residential unit River Landing at 1480 NW North River Dr., west of Miami-Dade’s criminal courthouse. The development also will feature shopping and restaurants atop 14 levels of parking.

Bromstad, who lives in Bal Harbour, will be honored Saturday night by the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. He’ll receive the Sherwin-Williams Businessperson of the Year award.

“Probably because I’m gay, and I have a business. And I’m doing really good,” Bromstad jokes about his award. “It’s wonderful. It’s just fabulous. I’m just over the moon.”

Bromstad, who started off as an Orlando theme-park designer and moved to South Florida four years ago from San Francisco, says he’s “extremely blessed” in his professional life.

“Television is doing really well,” he says. “I’ve been on the air for seven years. Jay Leno said if you can make it on the air for seven years and be successful, you can stay on the air the rest of your life. I’ve reached that milestone.”

On Aug. 17, Bromstad celebrates another milestone: He turns 40 and is planning a big birthday trip with partner (and David Bromstad corporate COO) Jeffrey Glasko.

“We are going to Mykonos for two weeks with 20 of my closest friends,” he says. “I didn’t think I had that many friends, but apparently I do.”
