Color Splash star David Bromstad on Friday hosted a fundraising auction for Salvation Army of Broward County at gay-oriented The Manor in Wilton Manors.

Bromstad, recently the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year, found himself at odds with some gay activists in early October when he announced his support for the organization, which in the past had an anti-gay reputation.

"We knew it was going to be a little bit controversial with the Salvation Army, but we did some research and we felt the Salvation Army was trying to clean up its act and make amends toward the LGBT community," Bromstad told the Miami Herald earlier this month.

Recently, the Salvation Army released a video for the LGBT community featuring a lesbian and gay man.
