UM law transgender workshop 2013-10-02 002

Students at University of Miami law school on Wednesday held a noon workshop on transgender legal issues.

UM law transgender workshop 2013-10-02 005HOPE Fellows Maui Moore and Krupali Patel moderated the discussion. Panelists were Aryah Lester, founder of TransMiami; Charo Valero of SAVE Dade (at right); and Daniel Tilley, staff attorney for the ACLU of Florida.

It was very necessary and important to create awareness within the UM community in respecting our trans brothers and sisters and protecting them discrimination," Valero said Thursday. "It's very necessary that they became aware that these protections are not afforded to them in our county."
