A year later: Coral Gables couple profiled by Herald celebrates as Mexican husband obtains green card

Posted Wednesday night to Facebook by The DOMA Project:

Miami couple

Exactly one year ago, I profiled Coral Gables newlyweds Daniel Zavala and Yohandel Ruiz, a couple married in 2012 in Washington, D.C., and hoping that Zavala, a Mexican, would soon get a green card – if the U.S. Supreme Court overturned part of the Defense of Marriage Act.

Of course, the court did just that in June 2013 and on Wednesday their attorney Lavi Soloway posted a photo of Zavala's new green card, proving he is now a permanent resident of the United States.
