Former Florida state Sen. Nan Rich, a Democratic candidate for governor, met Wednesday evening with LGBT supporters at Dapur Asian Tapas & Lounge in Fort Lauderdale.
“My candidacy would be good for all the people of Florida, actually, not just the LGBT community -- women’s groups, children, seniors -- because I have focused on equality and fairness all my time in the Legislature, 12 years,” Rich told the Miami Herald.
The Rich reception was organized by Fort Lauderdale attorney George Castrataro and Wilton Manors Vice Mayor Julie Carson, pictured above with Rich and LGBT/HIV activist Michael Emanuel Rajner.
Broward Sheriff Scott Israel attended the reception, but is remaining neutral in the Rich-Charlie Crist Democratic governor’s primary, according to Ron Gunzburger, the sheriff’s general counsel. (Gunzburger and his mom, Broward Commissioner Suzanne Gunzburger, are Rich supporters, he says.)
