Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber to host Emerald Gala on June 21 at Hilton Miami Downtown

GALAJPEGThe Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, June 21, will host it’s annual dinner, this year themed “Emerald Gala.”

Here are the details from publicist Richard Murry:

From a Prosecco welcome toast to a customized, emerald-colored laser-light show to a secretly stashed $500 credit card, the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC) 13th Annual Gala and Awards Presentation, “The Emerald Gala,” has prizes and surprises galore in store for its guests this year, said Steve Adkins, MDGLCC president. Wells Fargo will present the excitement-infused networker and gala honoring community leaders on Saturday, June 21, at 6 p.m., in the Grand Ballroom of the Hilton Miami Downtown Hotel.

“First are foremost, ‘The Emerald Gala’ is the networking event of the year,” said Adkins, “but it’s also our opportunity to honor organizations and individuals that have contributed so much to the local LGBT community. We just get to have a lot of fun in the process.”

“The Emerald Gala” kicks off with a silent auction of nearly 200 items. Travel, dining, entertainment and sports memorabilia dominate the items up for bid, including an autographed basketball from Miami Heat point guard Norris Cole and a signed jersey from the Heat’s Chris “Birdman” Andersen. Also featured will be two tickets to the Erasure “Violet Flame” concert, which kicks off a world tour at the Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater on September 12.

Every ticket to “The Emerald Gala” also includes participation in the Grand Raffle and a VIP gift bag, added Jorge Richa, marketing and programming director for MDGLCC. The Grand Raffle prize, courtesy of the Curaçao Tourist Board, Hilton Curaçao and Insel Air, is a luxury four-night trip for two to the beautiful Caribbean island. Arguably the most LGBT-friendly island in the region, the winners will be able to enjoy their own private beach at The Floris Suite Hotel and explore the historic city of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Among the goodies in the VIP gift bag will be mystery credit cards from Processing Solutions. One of the credit cards hidden among the 600 bags will be worth a surprise $500 cash prize and five others will be worth $100 each. The mystery value of the cards will be revealed at the Jackson Miracle After Party, which begins immediately after the awards presentation.

Performing at the nightclub-themed Jackson Miracle After Party will be winners from the LGBT Visitor Center’s Pink Flamingo Awards -- “Favorite Drag Queen” Tiffany Fantasia and “Favorite DJ” winner DJ Pride. The after party will run until midnight with open bar, dancing and interactive performances from Miami Arts Parade Foundation, a troupe of elaborately costumed entertainers who “glitter splendor,” from Pati Vargas Entertainment.

Throughout the evening, “The Emerald Gala” will pay tribute to three award honorees who were selected for their long-term commitment to fostering diversity, as well as for their efforts in contributing to the overall quality of life in South Florida. Being honored at “The Emerald Gala” will be:

Regions Bank “Business of the Year”:

Office Depot Foundation;

Morgan Stanley “Business Person of the Year”:

For the past several years, the MDGLCC Gala Committee has selected a different color of the rainbow flag for the gala’s theme and has encouraged attendees to wear a splash of that color to the event. Beginning this year, the gala elevates the status of the color theme by interpreting the rainbow colors in their gem stone complement. The 2014 emerald theme signifies growth, prosperity and renewal.

All tickets to “The Emerald Gala” are VIP this year, Adkins said. Tickets are $2,000 for tables of 10 or $200 for individual tickets and include reserved seating, grand buffet dinner, an open bar featuring Bacardi Brands’ GREY GOOSE® vodka among others, the VIP gift bag, complimentary parking, participation in the grand raffle and entrance to the after party.
