Who’s your favorite South Beach drag queen, chef and DJ? Vote now in annual Pink Flamingo Awards

Announcement from the LGBT Visitor Center in South Beach:

The LGBT Visitor Center has launched open nominations for the 2nd Annual “Pink Flamingo Awards” to honor the people and places that have made Miami Beach a top 10 destination for LGBT travel, according to a 2013 market research study conducted by Community Marketing & Insights. This year, the entire community is being invited to be part of the nomination process in addition to picking the winner, said Lori Lynch, executive director of the LGBT Visitor Center. Write-in nominations in 20 categories launched today at www.pinkflamingoawards.com and will be open through August 20.

“We want the ‘Pink Flamingo Awards’ to be our community’s People’s Choice Awards because the nominees and the winners will be voted on by tourists who have visited the Center as well as locals who frequent the Center for community events and activities,” Lynch said. “After the fill-in-the-blank nomination process is over, the five with the most nominations in each category will become finalists and we’ll initiate a second round of community voting. We encourage everyone to vote early, but unlike other voting events in Miami, you can only vote once.”

Nominations are now open in the following categories:

1. Favorite Hotel/Resort

2. Favorite Hotel/Boutique

3. Favorite Restaurant/Fine Dining

4. Favorite Restaurant/Casual

5. Favorite Chef

6. Favorite Fundraising Event – One Day

14. Favorite Media Personality

15. Favorite Miami Attraction

16. Favorite Retail Store

17. Favorite Gym

After the nomination period, the five finalists in each category will be unveiled at a Kick-Off Party in early September at Palace South Beach and voting for the winners will begin. The award winners will then be announced at a reception and dinner party on Tuesday, September 23, at the Miami Beach Convention Center beginning at 7 p.m. The high-spirited evening affair will include an open bar cocktail reception; a silent auction; a three-course, seated dinner; and live entertainment. Tickets are $75 per person and are on sale now at www.pinkflamingoawards.com.

Proceeds from the “Pink Flamingo Awards” benefit the LGBT Visitor Center which welcomes thousands of international visitors throughout the year and serves as a major hub of activity for the local community. The Visitor Center is funded and operated by the MDGLCC Foundation, Inc., the non-profit foundation of the Miami-Dade Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
