News release from Jose Lima:
ArtCenter/South Florida, welcoming more than 100,000 visitors per year, launches its 30th anniversary initiatives during Art Basel in Miami Beach by debuting a new Visiting Artist and Curator Program that begins with Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), Spain’s international agency dedicated to the promotion of Spanish heritage and culture around the world.
Madrid artist Juan López is the first of five artists from Spain invited to create and present their work in Miami Beach, alongside two Spanish curators. The work López creates during his ArtCenter residency opens the new Visiting Artist Program at the international level with his exhibition “Between Walls” (on view at the Richard Shack Gallery, 800 Lincoln Road, Nov. 16-Jan. 12 and during the week of Art Basel in Miami Beach).
The Opening Reception for “Between Walls” is Wednesday, Nov. 20, 6:00-10:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Concurrently, López will also exhibit a project as part of Temporary Contemporary in collaboration with the Bass Museum, on view at ArtCenter’s windows located at Lincoln Road and Meridian Avenue.
Four other artists and two curators from Spain have been invited by ArtCenter for residencies in Miami Beach, each for 4-6 weeks, through May 2014.
The other artists are Hisae Ikenaga, Dosjotas, Rosell Meseguer, and Esther Mañas and the curators are Guillermo Espinosa and Cristina Anglada.
Throughout all of 2014, ArtCenter’s 30th anniversary year, the organization aims to continue its new initiatives by inviting artists from other cities and countries for residencies in Miami Beach and plans to send ArtCenter resident artists abroad.
ArtCenter’s Executive Director María del Valle says: “This is a bold exchange of art across borders. We have traveled nationally and internationally and conducted extensive studio visits to develop our Visiting Artists Program."
"These international artists bring fresh new perspectives to the art communities in Miami and the United States. We hope that by sending our artists from Miami to work and exhibit in other countries they can also impact artistic landscapes abroad,” adds del Valle.
“Spain is thrilled to select ArtCenter/South Florida for this new cultural exchange with the United States,” said the President of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), Teresa Lizaranzu.
“ArtCenter/South Florida helped pioneer Miami Beach’s evolution into a global art destination, and continues to shape its future with innovative programming. The unparalleled visibility of its landmark location on Lincoln Road makes ArtCenter the perfect place to launch Spain’s new international partnership with the U.S. during Art Basel in Miami Beach,” adds Lizaranzu.
Juan López’s work has been featured in many international art fairs, and will be showcased again this year at Art Basel in Miami Beach by Nogueras Blanchard, a prestigious gallery based in Madrid and Barcelona.

HARARE, Zimbabwe -- And the winner is ... Ezmerald Kim Kardashian.
That was the stage name for a young man who won the title of Miss Jacaranda at a drag queen pageant in Zimbabwe. He refused to give his real name because he feared for his safety in a country whose president has described homosexuals as "worse than pigs and dogs."
The flamboyant pageant, one of the biggest gay and lesbian events in Zimbabwe, was held discreetly last weekend in an isolated farmhouse on a forest-shrouded hilltop on the outskirts of Harare, the capital. It was the finale of the annual ZimPride week, in which homosexuals held low-key events, including a film-screening and a launch of "Out in Zimbabwe: Narratives of Zimbabwean LGBTI Youth," a book on experiences of young people coming out about their sexuality to families and society. The events were publicized by word of mouth and messaging on social media.

Some folks got a bit hot under the collar recently when Miami Herald Media Company announced the free Spanish-language tabloid, Caliente – which during its first month has featured weekly centerfolds of bikini-clad females.
Not this week.
Hot boy of the week.
At last, straight women and gay men in South Florida have someone of their own to ogle:
Name: Danilo "Dlo"
Age: 25 years
Height: 5'9 "
Weight: 165 lbs
Occupation: Dancer and Singer
Hobbies: skating, yoga and Pilates.

Caliente editor Alfredo Arango promises Danilo won't be the last male model featured in the tabloid.
In fact, the magazine is seeking more men.
One catch: Photographers and centerfold models are not compensated, except for the exposure.

News release from #ShareTheMattress:
“Matilda,” “Newsies” and “West Side Story” actor/dancer Ryan Steele stars in the latest edition of the new video series #ShareTheMattress that features creative artists dancing and playing on their beds. Steele is the star of the new film Five Dances, which comes out today, and was the official selection of the Seattle International Film Festival 2013 and Jacob’s Pillow’s Dance Festival 2013. A prolific actor and dancer in both film and theater, Steele has established himself as a prominent rising actor on Broadway and in Hollywood.
In the video, Steele performs impressive gymnastics, acrobatics, flips and poses. His video is part of an online viral campaign by contemporary dance company Keigwin + Company and its artistic director and choreographer Larry Keigwin to celebrate the dance company’s tenth anniversary and the return of its signature piece “Mattress Suite” to The Joyce Theater this fall.
Steele’s is the fifth of ten videos that will roll out through October. The series is featured on KEIGWIN + COMPANY’s website. Viewers are encouraged to share their own videos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube with the hashtag #ShareTheMattress.
“Mattress Suite” -- created by Keigwin, whose theater credits include choreography for the musical “Tales of the City”, and Nicole Wolcott -- debuted in 2003 at the Joyce Theater in New York City. Keigwin created the piece in 2003 after watching dancer Nicole Wolcott jump around playfully on her bed. The pair developed choreography inspired by Wolcott’s moves and set to popular songs and classical music. The piece was a hit with critics and audiences. KEIGWIN + COMPANY’s 10th Anniversary season runs October 29-November 3, 2013 at New York City’s Joyce Theater. “Mattress Suite” will be featured during the run. Tickets are available here.

International Male was a mail-order clothing brand and, at one point in the brand's history, carried brick-and-mortar stores of the same name. The company that created and owns the brand, originally Brawn of California, started in 1974–1975, has since been sold in its entirety in 1987 to Hanover Direct, based in New Jersey.
The catalog originally carried a wide variety of men's underwear, but this was once spun off into a separate catalog, Undergear, which focused exclusively on men's underwear, swimwear, and some casual wear. The last mailed catalog of International Male was published in 2007. Undergear is now available online at www.undergear.com
Over the years, many famous models and actors have posed for the catalog, such as Shemar Moore, Cameron Mathison, Charles Dera, Christian Boeving, David Chokachi, Gregg Avedon, Reichen Lehmkuhl, Rusty Joiner, and Scott King.
