softball news

If softball fans haven't heard already, the National High School Federation and the FHSAA have approved to keep the pitching distance at 43 feet for the upcoming season.

I personally say thank goodness! Last year was the most entertaining softball season to cover in the 6 years I've been doing this. Gulliver's 3-2 seventh-inning rally at American Heritage probably wouldn't have happened with the previous distance when pitchers dueled inning after inning. Now you can truly gauge who is a good hitter and good fielder.

Also ran into Steve Batten at the Palmetto-South Dade football game. Should be interesting to see how the former Varela skipper does now that he's crossed over to coach Palmetto and is on the other side of that rivalry.
