more basketball news

While we're talking hoops, the All-State boys teams will be released starting Monday night with the Class 1A team.

stay tuned.

Things to watch out for during spring break

Baseball - The Westminster Academy tournament all week

Softball - The annual Kissimmee Klassic, with a field of 48 teams this season.

Track and field - The Florida Relays.

And a note to track fans, that probably feel slighted by our thus far poor track coverage. The first honor roll is on the way plus some news and notes I'm putting together this week, including the grand return of track and field to Traz Powell Stadium (cross your fingers).

Mr. Basketball

The list of the Florida Dairy Darmers Mr. Basketball finalists:

Class 6A Kenny Boynton, Ely

Class 5A Nick Calathes, Winter Park Lake Howell

Class 4A Adam Allen, Milton, senior,

Rihard Kuksiks, Melbourne Florida Air Academy

Class....wooo, wait a minute. This is where I have the Geico Caveman reaction. What?

Ok, Allen may be headed to UF and scored 1,200 points at Milton, but are you serious that this award didn't go to Pace's Ray Shipman?

Unless this was voted for before the state final four...which is very likely...let's not go only on stats, people. Shipman, the state tournament MVP, played a tremendous two games in Lakeland and was the catalyst for Pace's state title run.

Class 3A

Class 2A Devon Lamb, Jacksonville Arlington Country Day

Class 1A Vytas Sulkis, Gainesville Rock School

By the same token, Kenny Boynton in 6A, good job making up for previously not having him on the ballot at all and rewarding a very deserving player.

And in Class 2A, Lamb is for real. Whoever picks him up at the next level has a steal.
