As we've done in years past, we'll come out with our top 20 seniors in our official top 20 football recruits in the Dade football preview in August.
In the meantime, here are my early summer top 20 list
Again, this is not an official list just an early stab at ranking some of the top players in the county. I'm sure I'll miss tons others that I'll soon hear about from readers, so by all means let's create some buzz.

This is a disgrace that the fastest person in the nation is not on your list. The 32nd ranked Athlete in the Nation. All-Dade 1st team last year and you have Varner and Marti on your list who were not. Marti only played 4 games last season. Your list is invalid without Baker on it. I dont know where your getting your info from.

It is pretty sad that coaches from some private high schools around the county write on this Website to validate the scouting info of their own players. And to make matters worse... then they must belittle kids from other schools to make their own players look better. If a kid is on the list written by Andre, then leave him there and STOP crying that your kid was left off. To force Andre into changing his list purely becuase you player was not listed is WRONG. Andre has been a writer with the Miami Herald for some time now and knows what he is doing, yet some coaches around the county find it necesary to degrate other kids for some sick satisfaction.
NOTE: I personally think these private school coaches should be banned from posting on various message boards. Kids read these postings and when they see that a coach is CLEARLY bad-mouthing them, it makes the coach's program look bad as well as the coach himself. They are supposed to be grown men teaching the youth of today.

Roberts Sands? Not a top 200 player!
Liuget is top 5 - at least
Posted by: Simba | June 18, 2007 at 11:41 AM
I wonder how many unknown talented players would be on the list if all the Bulls didn't take up the space? All county was loaded with Bulls players. If a list was done without the Bulls players then a lot of other players could get som recognition.
Posted by: NW- no west' | June 18, 2007 at 04:20 PM
asyouwere, stop crying. its not badmouthing if its telling the truth. you know what else is bad, when writers of newspapers doctor stats and stories about their family to make them look better than other kids and other schools. thats what i think. and im not talking about andre. go to the jenny craig website and talk there maybe they will listen to u.

You should check out Keith Reaser (cornerback) and Ricky Rowe Jr. (quarterback)and Lamar Miller (running back)at Killian Sr. High

Where's Archbishop Curley QB/RB/WR/FS/SS/CB/KR/PR Ronald Gaudin huh?
Posted by: Anthony Gordon | June 20, 2007 at 11:56 AM
I think its a shame that football has come down to combines and camps some of the kids are just workout warriors and on the field there soft! there are a few but I wont mention names most all those kids on the list are legit but you have others that play against these small schools shouldn't get the same consieration.

Josh Brinson (WR) from South Dade will be 1st team All-Dade this year. James Walker(OLB) who made third team All-Dade last year will also lead Homesteads defense. Big time players, Watch out for them.

Wait a minute!! Donovan Varner has 14 offers as of now and the number four team in the nation has offered him Wisconsin and are on him hard. There's no reason he shouldnt have made first team all dade last year. Varner ran a 4.40 at the duke combine two weeks ago legitimately. He deserves to be a top 20 player in dade!
Posted by: trudread152 | June 28, 2007 at 07:43 PM
Not to mention Donovan Varner is on the TOP 150 ESPN list.. Thats in the nation right???
Posted by: trudread152 | June 28, 2007 at 07:46 PM
wtf does espn know, have they seen him in person, have they seen film on him. i dont think so, sorry that means nothing to me. varner is a good highschool players but he is 1AA at most in my opinion.
Posted by: therealdeal | June 29, 2007 at 04:16 PM
Well ESPN, to evaluate a player has to watch players film. Everyone is entitled to thier on opinion though. Obviously college coaches dont feel the same way if he has fourteen official D-1 offers. We'll see what he does this year and maybe your opinion will change.
Posted by: trudread152 | June 29, 2007 at 07:27 PM
im a big fan of northwestern hs athletics i am also an alumnus. im currently stationed in iraq. i had an opportunity to watch the west play football while i was on leave..im stationed in texas and have not seen any team close to the talent that the west has in tesax high school football. believe me florida and the nation will witness something special in 2007-08. If there are any NW Bull fans out there...please help me locate game footage from the past season...i am dieing to see the playoff and state championship game.....please help me out call martin, bratton, perriman....hook me up.
Posted by: anthony ( j jonah) edwards | June 30, 2007 at 10:43 AM
fourteen officials, lol i think u might be full of more crap than anyone who has ever used the internet. he is 1AA at best, maybe a non bcs 1a school. but he does not have 14 offers im sure of it. he is definatelly not big time. your opinion will change as the season unfolds im sure. or maybe it wont, he should put up good numbers against the likes of doral. lol
Posted by: therealdeal | June 30, 2007 at 11:01 PM
wat about Dante Branton out of runningback miami jackson who going to be probaly the best rb in dade county!!!!
Posted by: generallover2008 | July 01, 2007 at 11:29 AM
gore and miller are better than him.
Posted by: therealdeal | July 01, 2007 at 04:14 PM
I have not seen him play at gulliver but I know Varner is a good player and deservers some of the hype he's getting. But lets get down to business some the kids at the west are the product of the system if some of these other kids had three D1 defensive lineman in front of them they would led the county in tackles every year, I've watched some of these kids and there just running free to make plays as they should lets see when they have to take on guards and tackles .

What do you think about NMB's Aaron Winchester. I thought he had great stats last year, and if he played for Jeff Bertani, you know he has to be a heck of an athlete. I think he is one of the most underrated players in the state.

Posted by: generallover2008 | July 05, 2007 at 09:30 PM
doral had a good staff that actually won the first two games in the school history and was actually acoring points. before the former staff got there they had never even scored a td. dont be confused that they will be better because of the new staff. the new staff sucks.
Posted by: thetruth | July 05, 2007 at 09:50 PM
all i want to know is what is in south miami's water. from what i here the george baker kid and gore both played on the same pop warner team. the grey ghosts. that must have been a fast pop warner team.
Posted by: footballfan | July 05, 2007 at 09:53 PM
Yea Yea Yea i see all the talk and hipe is on Northwestern this year but the team we should be talking about is the BIG MIAMI CENTRAL they have a whole new coaching staff thats coming from Killian with Veteran coach Billy Rolle as there new head coach that means he brings over his spread offence that gonna be a threat to teams like Northwestern,Jackson,BookerT,and CarolCity because there secondary isn't ready for those type of offences thats all i have to say but mean while look out for those Green and White ROCKETS
Posted by: Drew Rosenhouz | July 06, 2007 at 01:53 AM
Whats the deal with Goodman and Boston College, supposedly has family in area?
Posted by: Phil | July 09, 2007 at 12:58 PM
Watch for these two senior captains coming from South Miami... Jarrell Gavins, and DreQuan Crawford. Jerrell being one of the best versatile athletes in Dade, plays corner, receiver, running back, and kick and punt return. DreQuan is an electrifying linebacker that covers the whole field and punishes the ballcarrier. If all goes well you could exspect to see them go deep into the playoffs, and maybe even the championship.
Posted by: Jack | July 09, 2007 at 09:13 PM
Hey did anyone attend the addidas seven on seven camp?? Gulliver impressed me and a bunch of others by making it to the championship. They beat Booker T, Hollywood Hills, Everglades.. It was a suprise.. That kid Varner played excellent and had a great supporting 6. I see that kid Varner is gonna be someone to keep a close eye on!
Posted by: footballguy305 | July 09, 2007 at 09:33 PM
rumor is that DreQuan Crawford was transfering to gulliver, any truth to that?
Posted by: footballfan | July 10, 2007 at 03:15 AM
Well theres a lot of kids overrated and everyone know for a fact that northwestern is the best team in florida but you have half of their kids on the top 20. I know it's not that serious. There are better kids from carol city to florida city. Please do research
Posted by: city | July 13, 2007 at 10:32 AM

the herald is pretty bad at covering high school sports, i sure as hell hope lineupmag.com can cover football and basketball like they covered baseball this year. if they can do that it will change high school sports in this county big time!!!!
Posted by: spartans revenge | July 17, 2007 at 02:11 PM

There is a receiver at American senior high school by the name of Marquise Law...he is a beast...standing 6'3 weighing 185. Too bad American does not have the right coaches for his talent.
