Tuesday's LIVE BLOG

It's that time of the week again when all our rowdy friends (play nice you St. Thomas Aquinas-Lakeland fans) gather to ask The Miami Herald's prep guys some questions.

Andre C. Fernandez (Miami-Dade) and Bob Emanuel Jr. (Broward) will be on the site from 7-8 tonight to answer all your questions (or at least try to).

So sharpen those #2 pencils, get your questions ready and fire away. Can't be here during the hour? Ask before and we'll get to your question later tonight.

I think STA fans always play nice. Thank God STA clicked last game. Do you think the victory had more to do with STA's improvement or the status of Hollywood Hills? From what I heard, Hollywood Hills had the opportunities but was doomed by turnovers and dropped passes. What would you categorize as STA's biggest improvement of the season thus far, and what they need to improve upon? What will they need to do to beat Cooper City first and then Deerfield Beach which defeated them last year? Thanks as always.

Andre. I was wondering how you felt about coaches who pad their players stats. I can clearly see by looking at the stat page every Tuesday that certain coaches around the county are padding their players stats heavily. I think that is shamful and dishonest and coaches should be reprimanded for doing so. You can clearly see by the discrepancy it stat which teams are doing it, so why doesn't the Herald raise a red flag?

Harold Sanchez

Andre, whats your take on the Southwest vs Ferguson game this friday and do you think the eagles have what it takes to win the district or atleast clinch a playoff berth?

Thomas the Tank Engine

What do you think the proper penalty should be for Miramar and Flanigan

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. It's time. Fire away with the questions!

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Franco,

Loaded question there bud. Let's see.

1) Last week's STA victory was a little of both. It should have been more competitive. But Hills dropped passes and fumbles often, and its offense never found cohesion. That said, Aquinas looked really good.

2) STA looks like it is getting better play from its lines now than what I saw against Jackson in the kickoff classic. There is still room for improvement.

3) I don't see them having a problem with Cooper City. Sure, the Cowboys are much improved, but STA is much further along and more talented.

4) I think the Deerfield Beach game is going to be close. The team with the fewest mistakes will win. I know it's an old adage, but it's true.

Thanks!

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Tommie Engine,

I can only make my judgment off what my freelancer in attendance told me. From what he said, it was ugly. I think the state may suspend several players and issue fines to both schools. I don't think the state will overreact, but it is possible.

miramar fan

Yes, what is the situation with miramar and flanagan?

miramar fan

When will these suspensions be notified?

Andre

Harold,

WHile I knew SW would be a bit improved, I'm impressed by how much, I'm picking them to beat Ferguson and I'll go so far as to say that this team has a chance to make their game against Braddock on Nov. 2 the district title game. They still have to prove it by beating Sunset and Varela. The Bulldogs already beat the Vipers.
But they appear capable with their star running back Hosey Williams.

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Miramar fan,

The state is reviewing the incident. I was informed, via e-mail today, that action will be coming later in the week. Anything is speculation until then.

I agree it is wrong for any coach to do so. From experience since I used to take the stats back in the day, we try to use our judgement such as in a case where a coach wants to correct a certain stat. If it's something that sounds ludicrous we reserve the right to leave it how it is. Unfortunately, since we don't have enough personnel to go to every single game there will always be the doubt and finger-pointing about people inflating stats. Thankfully, at crunch time, a.k.a. on the field playoff time, and at All-Dade selection time, it isn't ALL about the stats.

Do you you think northwestern will run the table again? Homestead kept it close and even southridge put up 21 points. Plus 6a seems really strong this year with teams like undefeated central, you also have american, krop, norland, deerfield beach, cypress bay and I even heard miramar is a threat in 6a. I believe with that number 1 spot week by week teams are goiong to play their toughest against northwestern resulting in a loss in the coming weeks.

Ryan

Bob, will we see Chaminade fall back, maybe not to it's pre MG days, but into maybe a middle tier team who has spurts of really play? It seems like they've taken a huge fall back this year. Yes they are playing good teams, but still. A few years ago some of these games would have been a lot more competitive. Before MG arrived the football teams were terrible. How do you think the future looks for the program? Will Al Lang get it back up after the first year or what?

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Ryan,

It is hard to say what the future holds for Chaminade.

While the team is experiencing a down year right now, a lot of it has to do with the departure of kids after Guandolo left. If those kids remained, Chaminade would be much better right now.

The school has turned out some great players through its junior varsity program. If that continues, the Lions will be strong again (and soon).

I will reserve my opinion on the job Al Lang is doing with the program. Coach Lang and I have mutual friends, and it would not be ethical for me to comment.

A letdown is the only thing that can slow them down. i don't put that much stock into the late 21 points by the Ridge. Homestead did play them tough, but that could have been the look ahead to Southlake Carroll. Enough excuses?
Bottom line is this. If they show up, they can and will beat everyone in their way and repeat. There's too much talent on this team not to. And the rest of the teams have been inconsistent, look at how Krop looked horrible then turned around and made American look bad, after American looked great for 4 weeks. And Norland, whose defense looked so good for 4 weeks got lit up by Central.

If anyone has a chance I think it will be the Rockets because they can pass, they can run. Why? Because their o-line looks better than it did last year and they are maximizing their talent, and they're hungry as heck to deal the Bulls a loss.

I figure NW will get a rematch with Central in the playoffs.
Beyond that, only Deerfield has a shot from the Broward teams, since they went toe-to-toe with them in the classic.

The few teams upstate that could pose a threat aren't in Class 6A.

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Re: Northwestern...

Deerfield Beach is probably the best of the Broward contenders in Class 6A. Miramar's offense (provided there are no suspensions, see above) has the firepower to mount a serious threat. Cypress Bay and Boyd Anderson would need a perfect game.

Andre

A little better this week. Thanks everyone! Check out the podcast that should be up by early tomorrow.
Enjoy.

Bob Emanuel Jr.

Thanks for the questions guys. It's been fun as usual.

cougar prige

what do you think about the lakeland-killian game

Jaime

Hi Andre, I am new to the blog and was wondering what the procedure was to pick the All-Dade's. I have noticed that it is usually the same guys over and over again and some of the kids are being left out who deserve to be there (stat-wise). I film all our games and my stats don't match up to what is printed, a little unfair don't you think?
