ORLANDO - Juniors Will Powers and Marshyl Rothman accounted for five touchdowns as Jupiter Christian scored 35 first half points and went on to a 49-14 win over South Daytona Beach Warner Christian and the 1B state title for the second straight year before 1,520 fans at the Citrus Bowl.
Rothman accounted for over 200 yards and Powers, who made an impact on both sides of the ball, went over 150 yards on the ground and registered six tackles.
"We knew going into the game that if we played our brand of football, we would win this game," said head coach Bill Powers, who guided the Eagles to their 27th straight win. "This was one of those game where execution was key to getting the job done."
Jupiter Christian (14-0) got on the board first when Powers took it in from 54 yards out. Danny Meyer's kick makes it 7-0 Eagles with 10:15 left in the first quarter.
Warner Christian (12-2) junior defensive back Breon Allen makes a key stop for the Eagles with 5:49 left in the first quarter at the Warner Christian 22 and the Eagles take over.
Allen's effort however went for nothing as Warner freshman quarterback Shelton Willis threw the ball right in the hands of junior Westin Pederson, who returned it 55 yards for a 13-0 Jupiter Christian lead with 3:38 left in the first quarter.
Warner Christian opened the second quarter by cutting the lead to 13-7 when Allen took it in from 2 at the 11:13 mark of the second quarter.
The Eagles of Jupiter Christian answer back with 9:12 left in the first half when Rothman took it in from the 3. Rothman's two-point conversion gave JC a 21-7 lead.
Rothman and the Eagles took a commanding 28-7 lead with 8:14 left in the second quarter when he took it in from the 18. The score was made possible after the Eagles recovered an onside kick.
It didn't take the Eagles long to move ahead 35-7 with 3:23 left in the opening half when senior Cobie Graham took a 5-yard pass from Rothman.
Warner Christian struck first in the second half when junior Rashad Greene took a 30-yard pass from Willis at the 9:35 mark, cutting the lead to 35-14.
Jupiter Christian continued to add to the lead at the 4:24 mark of the third quarter when Powers scored from 8-yards out to to make it 42-14.
The Eagles opened the fourth quarter on a roll as senior Byron Dames took it in from the 4 with 11:54 left in the game and a 49-14 advantage.
