North Miami Pioneer Hall of Fame

With a push for high schools to boast about some of their sports heroes of the past, North Miami Senior High, on the eve of the opening of a new high school in August of this year, will continue to promote its rich athletic past on Saturday morning, May 16 at Don Shula's Restaurant in Miami Lakes.

The 9:30 breakfast, which will showcase talented athletes from the school's past, will also bring out graduates such as Miami-Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman (1972) and nationally-recognized lobbyist and attorney Ronald Book (1971), who will welcome back Pioneers of the past for this yearly event.

This year's class includes former Miami Dolphin player and North Miami football coach Larry Ball and former coach and NFL player Jack Del Bello. The class will also recognize Pioneer athletes Sally Summer Rozanski (coach and athlete), Sally Dimler Alayon, Gregory Bethune, Ronnie Walker, Neleitshia Hinson, Charles Mackey, Lotasha Grady Scarlett, Marvin Scarlett, David Carter and Nick Belmonte, who is currently one of the voices of the Southeastern Conference Baseball TV broadcasts.

For more on this event and the other inductees to the Class of 2009, call the Pioneer Hall of Fame at 305-681-5692.
