One of the top Class of 2010 prospects will have a new home for his senior season.
Former Gulliver Prep linebacker Ralph Williams (6-1, 220) will move south for his final year and play for first year coach Patrick Burrows and the Spartans.
Williams, rated No. 21 in the Miami Herald Pre-Summer List among Miami-Dade County players, made a verbal commitment to attend the University of Tennessee, but is also being recruited by Ole Miss, Arkansas, FIU, Boston College and FSU.

Let me see, the lure was going from Gulliver to an "F" school. I guess someone islooking out for the kids education:)

Posted by: dirtysouthboy | July 01, 2009 at 01:22 PM
Heard from one of columbus' coaches that they are recruiting him....HARD!! Heard a family member was offered employment at columbus.

.....wait until basketball season and see all the rumored new recruits going to columbus,....hankerson from coral reef, hardaway from palmetto, odio from miami christian, point guard from northwestern, forward from pace, bush's little brother, a 6'9" transfer from N.Y.C., and a guard from south dade. Those rich parents at columbus are going to be pissed when their perfect children can only get garbage-time minutes! Feel sorry for the coach if he doesn't win with that talent, and keep the parents happy! Gonna be one helluva a team, though.

Well, he'll get through the cracks just like frank gore. anything is possible. i just can't believe that ralph acts that way. he still need to pass fcat???? how can he just keep changing schools with that behavior and continue to play sports
Posted by: juicy | July 03, 2009 at 04:57 PM
It doesn't matter who they recruit,Columbus still won't get past NW or Central, after their district.

WELL I PLAY FOR SOUTHRIDGE AND TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH HE IS WHAT WE NEEDED AT LINEBACKER TO FINISH THE SYSTEM. WE ALSO HAVE A SOPHMORE COMING IN FROM CAROL CITY. HE PLAYED HIS FRESHMAN YEAR AT CARO CITY. HE WAS NUMBER 42. SO WITH BROWN AT MIDDLE AND RALPH AT OUTSIDE WILL BE A GREAT DUO.

For "juicy': If he goes to columbus, he does not take the fcat. Private schools are not required to take the fcat to graduate or go to college. hence, the stream of inner city athletes who are heavily recruited by private schools. Also, the disadvantage private schools have over public schools. They can recruit and get away with it. This is not spectulation. I know this, personally! Also, to help their cause, a prominent member of columbus' staff is a voting member of the FHSAA, the agency that governs high school sports in florida.
To bellybob: Don't be so sure! The rumor mill has a few football players from Central, the West, and Booker T going over to Columbus. For sure, one of Booker T's talented wide receivers. His father told me!
As far as basketball is concerned, the district and regional title is theirs to lose, which I seriously doubt considering the talent they have going over there, and with Lorenzo being their coach.

Why is everyone always hateing on Columbus if we didnt let Lamarcus Joiner in do you really think we are going to let in a kid that got kicked out of Gulliver. why don't we talk about the running back (FATBOY)who followed his coach from Southwest to the Ridge.I guess he is not intrested in the Buisness program that got him into Southwest in the first place.IT WILL BE INTRESTING TO SEE IF THE Fhsaa really inforces there rules.GO EXPLORERS

Lamarcus had a choice of either going to Columbus (not nationally ranked) or going to St. Thomas (ranked #1 nationally). Which one would you choose? Also, Columbus was opposed to Lamarcus turning Columbus down, and even threatened him with being ineligible in Dade. St. Thomas has more pull in the football community (Coach Smith is a very powerful man nationally!) and more $$ than Columbus.

My son plays football for Columbus. He is a solid player. I think he would start at any other school in dade with the exception of NW. Why is everyone hating on Columbus. You get one hell of an education, excellence in athletics and a solid brotherhood. I am freaking sure that if your son was given the chance to go to Columbus, as a father, you weould send him. 99% of all of you. Don't be mad if your son can't go. Two types of boys in dade county: the one's that go to Columbus, and the ones that wish they could go to Columbus.

Ha,ha! Good post! Columbus is the best high school in Dade County. God, I wish my college-graduate, NFL playing son could have went to Columbus.
