Last year, it was one of the top area 7-on-7 events, and this year, the Palm Beach County event promises to be just as special.
Beginning at 9 a.m. at Palm Springs Community Recreation Park, 226 Cypress Lane, Lake Worth, 18 schools from four different counties will square off in a daylong tournament that includes powerhouse Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, Fort Pierce Westwood, Miami’s Doral Academy and Hollywood McArthur, which like Dwyer, has been tested against some major competition so far this summer.
“This is yet another showcase event that gives athletes the opportunity to compete against some impressive competition,” said event organizer Brian Coe. “Every year, the teams get better and better, and this year, we are bringing some top programs who all have tremendous athletes.”
In addition to Dwyer, Westwood, Doral and McArthur, other teams expected to be in action include Boynton Beach, Summit Christian, North Palm Beach Benjamin, Lake Worth, Palm Beach Central, Summerset Academy, Boca Raton Olympic Heights, Palm Beach Lakes, Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach Forrest Hill, Royal Palm Beach, Inlet Grove, John I. Leonard and former University of Miami Hurricane quarterback Steve Walsh and his West Palm Beach Cardinal Newman squad.
Dwyer, which features University of Florida-bound safety Matt Elam and tight end Gerald Christian, also boasts one of the nation’s top Class of 2011 tight end Nick O’Leary.
As many as 25-30 Division 1 prospects will be in action during the tournament.
