A year ago, he was battling for playing time at Dillard. On Saturday, Keion Payne, who has watched his stock rise as much as any defensive back in the state of Florida, committed to the University of Miami.
The addition of the 5-11, 175-pound St. Thomas Aquinas prospect keeps the Hurricanes rolling over the past week with players making the move to Coral Gables for a bright future.
“This was a school that I had been looking at since the spring,” said Payne, who has been a huge surprise for the Raiders since transferring over in the spring. “I want to be a part of what really looks like a great future at the school.”
Payne joins Glades Central standout Greg Dent, who committed to the Hurricanes last weekend as two future defensive secondary standout. He also joins a group of players from Broward County that also includes Jonathan Feliciano (OL, 6-4, 300, Western) and David Perry (DE, 6-6, 230, University School), who announced last weekend as well.
Payne was also being recruited by West Virginia, FSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Tennessee among other schools who have been watching his stock rise.
The Hurricanes first saw Payne last spring during the annual Blue and Gold spring game.
