Four Gulliver baseball players commit to UM; Valencia to USF

Hey guys,

Back with a little baseball news.

Gulliver baseball coach Javy Rodriguez called me Thursday and said four of his underclassmen, sophomore Chris Chinea, shortstop Adrian Marin, center fielder Ricky Eusebio and junior pitcher Chris Diaz all committed to the University of Miami.

The Raiders' senior catcher Andrew Valencia committed to South Florida. We had a typo in my story today, which I'm having fixed soon on the website and will for Saturday's paper, saying Valencia was also going to UM. He is going to USF.

Also, a former Dade star pitcher had a pretty good game this week in college.

Former Killian High pitcher Teddy Kaufman had a career night Tuesday, throwing pitching a complete-game shutout for the University of South Florida in a 4-0 win against the University of Central Florida. Kaufman struck out a career-high 14 batters … most by any USF pitcher since 1987 … and walked only two. He has a 3.27 ERA in six games this season … best among the team's starters.
