HERALD SPOTLIGHT: Deontae West

Hialeah West1
Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will shine the spotlight on many athletes during the spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

PLAYER: Deontae West
YEAR: 2011
SCHOOL: Hialeah
CITY: Hialeah
POSITION: DB
HEIGHT: 5-9
WEIGHT: 160
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Marc Berman

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: If you are looking for one of the top defensive backs in South Florida, this is one that many college coaches would rank right up near the top, and anyone who has watched him play or competed against him, wouldn't disagree.

Watching him all of last year, during the combine season and into the spring, you would have to say that this is a talented, quick football player who hasn't received the attention he deserves. Not only is he quick and talented, but he anticipates and reads as well as any secondary performer we have watched.

After a solid junior year, where he went up against some top prospects, there is little doubt that this will be one of the players to keep an eye on this season.

A number of colleges have been extremely impressed at practices an in the spring game that saw the T-Breds beat Miami Sunset.
