HERALD SPOTLIGHT: Mike Williamson

Mike Williamson Deerfield1
Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will shine the spotlight on many athletes during the spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

PLAYER: Mike Williamson
YEAR: 2011
SCHOOL: Deerfield Beach
CITY: Hollywood
POSITION: LB
HEIGHT: 6-1
WEIGHT: 210
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Adam Ratkevich

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: While several top-flight prospects have been receiving publicity from those who have watched them play, there are athletes such as Williamson, who has completely flown beneath the radar screen. His skill level is on par – or above some of the other linebacker prospects in the region.

Having watched him play since he was a starter at McArthur in the 10th grade, this is one of those athletes who has the speed, strength, football skills and size to compete against the best in South Florida. He also plays with passion and plenty of emotion!

College coaches who have watched him play over the past two years believe that this is going to be a banner year for him as he continues to make plays against the run and the pass.

No matter what team he lined up against last year, there was always a concern to keep track of his every move. By the end of the season, this will be a player who will be on several D1 lists.
