HERALD SPOTLIGHT: Jovani McCray

Jovanni mccray-2011(1)
Having the opportunity to watch many of the athletes in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties when they begin playing football at the youth football level, the Miami Herald will shine the spotlight on many athletes during the spring and summer.

With the chance to see the athletes away from the football field as well, we can bring you up close and personal with some of the top prospects in the nation - right here in our own backyard.

PLAYER: Jovani McCray
YEAR: 2011
SCHOOL: South Dade
CITY: Homestead
POSITION: QB
HEIGHT: 6-0
WEIGHT: 195
HEAD FOOTBALL COACH: Greg Dentino

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Here is a quarterback prospect who we watched for the first time during his junior season and have been impressed ever since.

In a region that has more than its share of top-rate quarterback prospects, this is a player who flown way beneath the radar screen over the past year after leading his team to an appearance in the 6A regional semifinals.

He has a strong and accurate arm, has enough foot speed to buy plenty of time to find receivers and makes great use of a running game that has added balance the past two seasons.

While many colleges have not had the chance to watch McCray play during a game, there is a sense that this season will watch this quality football talent rise to the occasion and start to really matter to colleges looking for a true leader at the position.
